Trying to Get Pregnant

A Baby Story - Would you? (NTTGP)

Last night I was watching A Baby Story on TLC.  I am not pregnant now, nor have I ever been.  I love watching this show because I have never expeirenced birth and it helps me understand what will eventually (and hopefully) happen during this time for me. I am greatful for the women who have shared their stories because I do not have anyone close to me who has been pregnant, let alone someone who has let me in the OR for a c-section or let me watch them give birth.  They share a very intimate part of their life.   It got me thinking...Would I ever want to be on this show?  Would my husband even agree to it?  I can't imagine screaming in labor pains while a camera is watching.  But then again, I have a different type of story with my disability that I would love to share.  I think MH would think I was crazy if I wanted to be on it....he may even be embarassed because it's on TLC lol.

Would you ever volunteer to be on the show?  Do you know anyone who has been on the show?  Just curious what everyone thinks.

  • Not in a million years. I'm not even sure I want my mom in the room and we are really close.

  • No, don't think I would. It would just weird me out all those cameras and stuff in the room. Also, just a note for you; don't rely on those shows to show you what really goes on it will set you up for disappointment. Real labor and delivery isn't 30 min with commercial breaks. I have really had patient say "why is this taking so long, this wasn't how it was on baby story" haha.

lol yeah I figured that.  I can't believe people actually say that.

I figured it's a semi glimpse of what goes on.

  • No way! Despite the fact that I am on TB, I am a pretty fiercely private person IRL and wouldn't want to share that experience with anyone but my DH.

Once we get our BFP, we are planning to call everyone AFTER the baby is born so no one is sitting around being nosy during the labor.

  • No way.  I don't want anyone in the room except for MH and the medical staff.
  • No way. When I ha my cs and it was time for my epi I was so scared and nervous that I acted like such a baby. I apologized to the nurse letting me bury my head in her shoulder at least a dozen times for acting like a child. While she said it was normal, I still felt like a fool. There's no way I would let the rest of America see that.

  • I agree with the other ladies in that I wouldn't do it, but it sounds like you have a really unique and interesting story so I understand why you would feel more compelled to do so.  Yes

    Thanks Big Smile

I'm a big baby though like the previous poster said...I have had numerous moments where I've cried on a nurse and had her hold my hand lol.  I def wouldn't want that broadcasted like everyone else said.

  • It depends on if they were to pay me and how much.

  • Nope.

a.) My L&D was pretty boring because I dilated to 5 cm with little ado and then got the epidural and slept until pushing time. No screaming, no tears, just focus.

b.) I think a lot of pressure is put on the dads to fill in voiceovers of what's going on during the process. My husband is not the personality that would enjoy that, and I wouldn't want him to have to split his attention like that.

c.) The moment that baby is born is pure, intense emotion. The last thing I want to be for that time is on display.

    Just not for us.

  • I thought of this when I was watching it this morning. I'm torn. I don't know if I want anyone but myself and DH in the delivery room. (I'm already having issues with knowing that in my OB practice there are 10-12 different doctors and midwives that will be seeing me until June, since there's no guarantee on who will be on call for deliveries when the baby is born and I know that they do this for a living and see tons of vaginas every day.)

    BUT ....

I also am in agreement that while it only shows a glimpse of what happens, I'm so appreciative of the fact that these women do put their stories on TV for other women to see. I have some medical issues that I have no idea how they will affect the pregnancy or delivery and I'd love to see a story on there about what I have. In the essence of helping someone else out, I think I'd consider it.

I watched this morning and there was a woman who found out she had breast cancer and ended up still getting pregnant, and her story was so completely inspirational -

  • While I enjoy watching the show, I definitely would not be interested in being a part of it.

  • Nope.. I don't even know if I want my mom in the room, let alone a camera crew and millions of people watching me on tv.

  • Absolutely not. Never. Just no. My husband is lucky I'm letting him in the room Wink

  • I grew to despise that show during PG. That's one reason why I wouldn't want to be on it. The other was that I had a very atypical L&D that turned into an emergency situation and sick baby by the end. I don't think I would want to relive that again, let alone allow America and beyond to experience it.

  • I would because I'm greedy and would want the money.

Now I would definitely do "A Conception Story" because I think that IF needs to be talked about more on tv.

  • No way for me!! lol.  I have been lucky enough in my profession to be able to watch and help deliver several babies.  It is absolutely amazing.  However, when I am someday in that position there is no way in he!! that I would want a camera in my face.  I want DH in the room and that's it...not my mom or anyone else.  I know (from work and friends and family) experience that most women at that point don't really give a crap who the heck is in that room looking at them...they just want their baby!! So that would be a personal decision....Smile

  • I would seriously consider doing the show because of my health issues.  It might be comforting for someone else to see that yeah, you can have a baby with lupus and fibromyalgia.  I also like the idea of documenting the birth process, just to see the expressions on my husband and I's face right after the baby is born.

  • My sister-in-law did the show when she had their second child.  At the time, my brother was in Iraq and would not be able to attend the birth.  She had a home birth with a CNM and pretty much the whole family- well all the women... and there are a LOT of women in that room.  My brother was on the phone when she delivered and after the show aired, they were really happy that he was able to watch it.  They joke about it, though because it still aires and my neice is 6 years old now.

Also, they don't pay you to go on the show.  I think they gave her a gift basket with some bottles and diapers.  They didn't even get a copy of the episode.

If you catch it, it's the Baby Gordon episode.

That being said. I probably wouldn't do it... I'm much more private then my sister-in-law...

  • Nah, I wouldn't want to be one the show.
