gps watch recommendations

Hey Ladies!

Can anyone recommend their GPS watch for running?  There are so many different options out there that it is difficult to decide.  I have just a plain Timex ironman watch now that I got for about $20 at a watch outlet two years ago.  It's held up pretty well and helped me train for a few full and half marathons.  However, I want something more sophisticated...a watch that tells you mileage, heart rate, calories burned, etc.

I would love to hear your recommendations!

  • I have the Garmin Forerunner305 and love it. Only issue is it is rather addicting and I have a hard time doing races without it. :)

The 305 does tell you your mileage, pace, has a heart rate monitor, and estimates calories burned. However, it doesn't use the heart rate monitor to estimate calories burned - it uses your profile settings (height, weight, etc) and your pace/distance. As a result I found it to be very inaccurate. If you want to have an accurate count I'd go with the 110 or 405 - which I'm pretty sure both use the heart rate monitor to calculate calories burned.

  • I have the garmin 305 also. However my friend has the 100 or 101 or something like that and hers tracks calories burned during any workouts. I don't think mine does that and wish it did (or I haven't figured that feature out).

  • Garmin is by far the best GPS watch.  I had the Garmin Forerunner 301 for about six years.  It finally died and I upgraded to the 305 a couple months ago.
