Adoption

Newbie

Hello Ladies! While I just got married a month ago, I always knew I wanted to adopt. We agreed that we wouldn?t begin having kids until a year after marriage, at least. But we both agreed that we need to begin our research, because adoption doesn?t happen in a day! I was wondering if you girls could help me out. What sites do you recommend? What are the things I should know right now? Any little thing will help us out greatly. Thanks in advance!

  • Hi and welcome!

I'd start with the FAQs at the top of the board.

  • Welcome and congratulations! Definitely take this time to do some research- the FAQ section on this blog is really helpful. Also, if you have any agencies in your area, check with them to see if they have any free informational meetings/seminars/classes- these can be amazingly helpful! Good luck and let us know if you have any questions ;-)

  • I'll ditto the FAQ's.

Also, when we began researching, I just googled adoption agencies in our area, then called and asked their criteria for adoption (length of marriage, etc) - word of caution, most agencies I ran across have a minimun length of marriage of 2-3 years. Some may not, but just be prepared. My sister lives in another state and is waiting until January when she will be married 2 years to start the application process.

    Good Luck!

  • Hi, and welcome!

Ditto the pps about the FAQs.  Also, just hanging around this board and watching people's progress will give you a great idea of what to expect.  We've got people doing every kind of adoption, and most of us share a good portion of our story.

    Good luck!
