It has been 10 weeks since I had my baby and I would love to exercise to get back down to my pre-pregnancy weight. Is it ok to start now? My dr. said I could go back to doing my regular routine, but I'm afraid of doing the wrong thing. Could I get a hernia? What kind of exercises can I do to get my abs back without causing damage? And what signs should i look for to tell me to stop? I'm afraid, because I tried doing a little at 8 weeks and it felt like my insides were swollen...kinda like when I first came home from the hosp...???
Re: Exercise After C-Section
Start slow. Remember you are still recovering.
I started to walk again, and do weights. I didn't do abs again until recently. Your abdominal wall was cut and I wanted to make sure that it had the proper time to heal before I did anything.
I also tried at 8 weeks and couldn't do it. I felt like my insides were ripping! I started again at about 5 months post and was able to do pretty much everything including a LOT of ab work. I did the 30 day shred and then moved on to some of Jillians tougher DVDs. It really got my abs in great shape which I'm glad I did before getting pregnant with number 2. I had better abs than before I had my first! I hope to start a little earlier with this one, maybe around 3 months post, but I know I'll have to back off it if hurts. It's better to wait a little longer than to reinjure yourself.
