Fifths disease while pregnant

Does anyone have any experience with exposure to fifths disease while pregnant?  I'm currently 28 weeks and was just notified that one of the children is DDs daycare has fifths disease.

I just tried to call my dr. since everything I found on Google says consult your dr. and it looks like he's on vacation until next week.  I have an appointment next week, so I guess my real question is do you think this is something that can wait a week or should I have him paged?  It doesn't seem like it's an emergency but I'm just not sure.

  • If the office is still open, request a call back today from someone. I don't think there's anything that can be done. I don't know if you need to keep your LO out of daycare until it;s gone, or just distance yourself from your LO.

  • My doctor had me come in for a blood test, but assured me that the vast majority of adults are immune so don't worry too much.  If my bloodwork came back showing I wasn't immune they would call me back to a second blood draw to see if I had contracted it, but even then there isn't really anything they can do.

  • Thanks ladies.  Since the little boy already has the rash he's past the contagious point so I guess if i need to stay away from anyone it would be my DD, which is probably not possible.  I think I'll just wait until next week since the office is already closed and I really hate paging the dr. when it's not an emergency.
  • You need to go get labs drawn at your doctor's office...just call and tell them you could have been exposed to parvo virus, the virus that causes Fifth disease. If your level is high enough, they may have to monitor you at a high-risk OB's office because the virus can cause anemia in a fetus which can cause miscarriage. Not trying to scare you, but it's not something to take lightly. I was exposed to the virus too, but thankfully all was ok!
