hello, so i dont actually post alot but i was wondering what you guys would do if u were in my situation. im kinda nervous to post about this but here i go...
LO was born with 12 fingers and 12 toes, because we are overseas she couldnt get surgery right when she was born. At her four month check up her doctor took pics of her extras and sent them to the hand and foot doctor in maryland, well at her 6 month check up he told me the hand and foot doctor wants to do her surgery anywhere between 9 months- 24 months. but the her doc said around 12 months would be better. ahhh.. im already nervous but now i have to pick when i want her to get surgery. so heres my questions.
would u get the surgery done at 9 months, when shes crawling, and before shes actually walking? even tho the doctor said its better to wait till 12 months . or would u get it done at 12 months when shes just learning to walk? or would u wait till after 12 months when she is already up and walking and all over the place.?
im more nervous about who the doc is that will be doing the surgery i havent met him and wont until we fly over to get her surgery done. should i ask isabellas doc for the hand and foot doctors email or something because i dont want just anyone doing her surgery??
last time i posted about her fingers and toes someone told me to go look up the mentally disabled board or something like that and i was upset because shes not mentally disabled, she just has extra little fingers and toes. thanks guys ![]()
Re: WWYD?
That's a tough situation! I think I'd trust the doc and do 12 months when he recommended would be the best. And, I didn't see how old your LO is, but you don't really know when she'll be walking or crawling. My ds didn't crawl until 12 months and walked at 15. I think my dd will crawl by 7 months (very soon!) and I have no idea when she'll walk.
I'd ask for the doc's email. Possibly you could do a conference call/email or skype or something so that you'd "meet" him before the surgery.
I didn't read your last post, but possibly someone suggested posting on the "special needs" board, which does not mean mentally disabled. I could see why that would be a good suggestion-there's a lot of things that women on the special needs board post about (surgeries is one of them) that many of us on the April board may not have any experience with. If you want to talk with another mom whose child has had surgery, that might be a better spot to post (although there might be some on here with the same experience). Please don't take offense to that suggestion-special needs doesn't mean mentally disabled-just that the child has special needs that no everyone has experience with.
Have you spoken to the specialist in MD? What is his rec? DD1 did not crawl until she was 14 months and she walked one week later. I would opt to get the surgery done earlier rather than later. Your LO may not actually reach the crawling/walking milestones until a little later than the usual 9/12 mo. FWIW-DD1 got tubes in her ears (10 mo) under anaesthesia and she did well. She was definitely not the youngest in the medical room.
GL!
thanks everyone for ur input
i never thought to see if i can set up a skype conference with the doctor, im going to look into it
