2+ moms - wearing maternity clothes?

I know everyone's body is different, but to be honest I loooove my comfy maternity clothes. I'm sure I'll wear them around the house, but I don't want to be mistaken as still pregnant if I wear them out after baby arrives! How long do you think is reasonable to still be in maternity clothes after LO comes? Or, how long did it take you to get back to your normal clothes with your first?

Re: 2+ moms - wearing maternity clothes?

  • I was able to wear some of my regular (but bigger) jeans and shirts within a week or two.  I was so sick of my maternity clothes at that point I was dying to wear just bout anything else! I think it's totally acceptable to wear maternity clothes for as long as you want and as long as they still fit right.... Just don't be surprised if someone asks when you're due!

  • When I went shopping for my maternity clothes, the salespeople were wearing maternity clothes and they weren't even pregnant.  They said they were much more comfortable than regular clothes and they didn't care if people said anything.  I do have some maternity clothes that could pass for regular everyday clothes that I might still wear post baby, but we shall see!

  • Around the house I usually wore sweats, but out I was back to wearing my normal pants by 2 weeks. Things fit differently though and I had a c-section so I had to make sure it wasn't rubbing my incision site.

  • I probably wore maternity clothes that weren't too obvious for about 4-6 weeks. Like pp said, though, around the house I wore (and will wear) sweats and pajamas. Actually, I'm really looking forward to wearing pj's all day for the next few weeks!

  • I have some cute skinny jeans and leggings that are maternity, but with a longer tunic-style shirt, you can't tell that they are maternity at all. With DD, I was in maternity clothes for almost 8 weeks, just because I had them handy and they were comfy. I have some friends who wore maternity jeans long after they had their babies, just because they had spent some good money on some of the items, and again, if they are tighter everywhere but the waist, you can't even tell they are maternity.

  • I'm 15 days post-partum and today's the first day I'm wearing non-maternity pants! I mostly put them on just to see if they'd fit. I'm sure I'll be back to pj pants, yoga pants, and maternity pants for the rest of the week. They're just so much more comfy to wear around the house.

  • I had to wear my maternity jeans for awhile....like maybe 6 weeks or so and THEN I moved into bigger than normal reg. jeans.  It took me about 6 months to get into my regular jeans.  I wore maternity tops for the first few weeks, in public.  At home, I will wear my regular comfy clothing...I'm still wearing my regular sweat/comfy pants now, so obviously I will fit in them PP.  I'm just self conscious about my mushy belly....which is bound to be mushier than ever after #3.

  • I gained a lot of weight with DD--so I was devastated when I had to go back to work at 8 weeks PP in maternity pants.  My boobs also got huge...so my shirts didn't fit either.  I ended up having to go out and buy some new stuff to get me through.

  • It took me about a month before I didn't look pregnant. Another month before other stuff started fitting.

  • I wore my maternity pants for an embarassingly long time after DS was born.  Like 5 months.  Everything had changed - bigger belly, wider hips & thighs, bigger chest, etc.  And I didn't want to invest any more money into clothes that weren't my regular size.  It was really hard to dress for a while because my regular stuff was too small and my maternity stuff was way too big.  I really had to hunt through my closet to find stuff to wear.  But the maternity pants and jeans - yeah, I wore those for quite a while post-partum.

  • Well, sounds like I'll probably be stuck with my maternity clothes for a little while. I'm looking forward to getting out of the pants, because none of them have belt loops and they always slide down! Ha. I still have my bella band, so maybe that will work for a while with my old pants.

I guess I'll just have to make hubby to be super honest and tell me if I "look pregnant" before stepping out of the house! :)

  • For me I miss my regular clothes...

This is baby #3 for me. I try to get back in to my regular clothes with in a week or 2.
