I just bought some hoping to decrease dryer time. I've never used a fabric softener or dryer sheets, but they're also supposed to serve the same function so that's an added bonus.

Nope, just a gentle bumping noise. I find it soothing actually.
Re: Stupid ?. What's the point of wool dryer balls?
1. Decrease drying time
2. Cut down on static cling

I use them all the time and they significantly cut down on drying time. also, as others have mentioned, they reduce static.
i actually picked up some Buddha Bunz dryer balls on ecobabybuys.com today. they are the best by far and ecobabybuys is selling them for 45% off.
They replace nasty dryer sheets (which you shouldn't use with CD's anyway).
They aid in faster drying times.
They reduce static.
