I bought the GIAM (sp?) yoga video when I was preggers with DS1- I'd never even heard of the name Poppy nor Sunshine until I saw that video. Needless to say Poppy was about to POP (she was atleast 9 1/2 months preggy) and I couldn't stop laughing long enough to even complete the video. It's a running joke in our household.
I like it but this is FIL's grandfather name so it would be weird if we used it. Penelope is #1 on our list for hypothetical #2. (We'll probably use NN Penny.)
It reminds me of the Wizard of Oz and the field of poppies, which is a great reference since that movie is awesome.

I'm sorry, but the first thing this name makes me think of is opium and I, personally, don't consider that a good thing.
LMAO! Here's something to make all you bumpies cringe: I have a Mary Jane and an Eliza Poppy. And I did it knowingly and on purpose.... Remember the rule about already named children ladies.... Bwa-ha-ha-ha....
for me poppy is one of those "i don't get it" names. it might be because 1. i think of poppy seeds and 2. there are 2 men in my family who are called poppy by their grandchildren.

Re: Poppy as a MN
I think Poppy is super-cute. There's a poster around here somewhere (mummyofsix) with a daughter named Poppy.
I would think it would be a little difficult to find a FN that goes with Poppy, but if you can find one that you love, go for it!
Also, it can be a NN for Penelope, if that would make it a little easier for you to use it as a FN.
Unfortunately I haven't come up with any yet that go with Poppy.
It's odd that I like Poppy so much because I'm a real fan of very traditional names. I like the idea of Penelope, but DH said "NO WAY!" Haha!
Here is my name list so far:
Abigail
Esme
Hannah
Emily
Grace
Katherine
Lily
Elizabeth
Olivia
I REALLY wish I could come up with some names I adore that aren't so popular. These babies aren't going to have names unless they're boys...
I want to like it, but it reminds me of papi (like, spanish for dad) too much.
