Genetic Blood Disorders...

I am asking this on behalf of my best friend who just received word her little 17 mt old son has a genetic blood disorder - when they thought it was simply anemia. Are there any moms out there that have ANY knowledge or experience firsthand with this? They don't know what type yet - on a specialist's wait list..   Any help is appreciated.

    My daughter has a genetic vascular disorder, but not blood. It's called Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). How did they know what to lok for. Have the mom and dad been tested yet?

    What is the disorder? My ex-husband had Thalassemia. He was very sick as a  child and in grade school when they finally diagnosed him. I believe there is an Alpha and a Beta form and the Alpha requires frequent blood transfusions. He had the beta and only occasionally had to have transfusions. This is passed through the mother and they didn't know that she had it until he was diagnosed.
