2nd time moms (or more) -- gaining weight faster?

Are any 2nd time moms gaining weight faster this time around?  For my first pregnancy, I was super happy to not start gaining until around week 20.  I had no morning sickness, I just wasn't that hungry and was able to exercise normally.  It was fantastic because I didn't gain much weight overall (20 lbs), and had a super healthy/comfortable pregnancy and a healthy baby.  Now, it's like even if I hardly eat anything I gain weight and it's been sticking.  It's really frustrating and I was just wondering if others had the same experience.

  • Not yet but I am worried about later in the pregnancy and it coming off afterwards.  I am expecting to start gaining anytime now b/c I don't feel sick anymore so I guess we shall see!

  • with my first, I lost a lot of weight in 1st tri because I felt so sick and had an aversion to food. This time, I am even sicker but eating constantly helps. I have only gained 1-2lbs. So technically, yes I am gaining faster (since I am not losing) but I am not really gaining much at all.

  • Yep, I do believe I am. With DS I started gaining around 14ish weeks. My last dr. appt. was a week ago, and I had gained 3lb.

My pregnancy with DS wasn't all that fun though. I had pre-e and was on bedrest from 28w-37w (induced at 37w due to my protein levels getting higher by the week). I gained 25lb just in fluid & 25lb in pregnancy weight--so 50lb total.

This pregnancy, I'm already starting to swell a bit in my feet after work and such. I just hope it doesn't go the same route as the first did.

  • I had bad MS with both, but eating has been the only thing that helped with this one. I lost 7lbs with my DD, and I have gained 3lbs with this little nugget. I hope to stay in the 25-30 range this time. I got to 32 with my DD.

  • No I am not gaining weight faster. I have yet to gain anything that stays on.
  • I';m gaiing much slower then I did with DS, but I'm also on the GD diet and I've watched what I eat since I got my BFP.  When I was pregnant with DS, I kind of took pregnancy as a license to indulge.

  • With DD, I only gained 1 or 2 pounds by the end of the 1st tri.  Sp far with this one, I have LOST 1 or 2 pounds, and that was at my 8 week appt.  I weighed myself the other day and I lost another pound, at 10 weeks.  I have been sicker this time, but I am starting to feel better sooner, so maybe I will break even by my next appt., which is in a couple weeks.  So for me, I have done the opposite so far.

  • Thankfully, no.  I gained 8 lbs by this point with DD.  I was constantly eating carbs, carbs, and more carbs with her.  I gained 50 lbs total, and had a hard time getting it off despite bf'ing.  This time I've gained 2ish.  I'm really hoping to keep it around 30 lbs this time.
  • I have the same problem my second time around. The first pregnancy I didn't seem to gain anything until the end of the 2nd trimester and it was a cake walk. This time around I'm nausous and can only stomach carbs so everything seems to be sticking. I'm hoping this is the difference between a boy and a girl.
  • I've actually lost weight this time around. I lost 6lbs between week five and 6, and had only gained one back by week 8. But, by week 8, my belly popped out and my close don't fit anymore. :( I look like I've gained 10lbs, and I'm still down 4.
