2nd Trimester

If you bought a doppler?

Where did you get it?

How much was it?

How often do you use it?

Do you have problems finding the heartbeat?

I am considering getting one, but I am hesitant that I will have issues finding the heartbeat.    I know this would send me into a total panic attack!

Thanks for the info!

Re: If you bought a doppler?

  • I believe I bought it off ebay (bought it when I was pg with dd #1).  I think I paid around $100 for it (HiBeBe brand).  I use it maybe every other day.  When the baby starts moving more consistently I won't use it as much.  I have a pretty easy time finding the hb now that I am a little further along (15w). I almost alwyas find it immediately.  I LOVE MINE!!

  • I have the Sonoline B. It was given to me by a friend, but you can find them many places online for ~$60.

It took me a while the first time I used it to figure it out, but since then I can find the heartbeat very quickly. It's given me so much peace of mind. I would be a mess without it.

  • I bought mine from Craigslist

    It's a Huntleigh Fetal Dopplex

I got so lucky...the lady sold it to me for 20.00 and it retails around 800.00

I first used it at 9 weeks 2 days...took me a few days to find baby...but once I did it was pretty easy from there.

It really makes me feel better that I can check on LO whenever I want...I would highly recommend getting one.

  • I ordered my doppler around 11 weeks. I started using it around 12. I got the Sonoline B (you can just google it and it'll bring up medical websites). It cost me total about 55.00, including shipping. It came within a few days. When I first got it, it was really hard to find. I had to push really hard, and use a lot of gel, and a few times i rolled to my side to try to find it. It can be discouraging if you can't find it, but don't use it until the doctor finds it first or you're a little farther along. It's been a worth while purchase because when I'm having a bad day, and especially before I could feel the baby, I would use it just to make myself feel better. Toward 16-18 weeks it was neat finding it and then the baby would move away from the wand til I couldn't hear her anymore. Our LO is really active. :)

  • I bought mine from FetalDoppler.net

I have the Sonoline C 3Mhz, it was around $80

Im still a little early to hear on an at home doppler, and Im a little bit of a bigger girl, so my OB said I might not hear it until around 14 weeks... but I still check every couple of days to see.

    GL in your searches!

  • I have a cervical polyp that causes random bright red bleeding. I bought a doppler the other day to help with anxiety. I found it on craigslist. It was $40. Sonoline B.

  • I bought my AngelSounds for $20 from a lady on LiveJournal. I used it a few times a week until I started feeling the baby kick regularly; now I use it only when the baby hasn't been as active, for reassurance.

I've never had any trouble finding the heartbeat, but I did talk to my OB about it -- she said it's best to treat an at-home doppler like an at-home early pregnancy test: A positive (i.e. a heartbeat) is a positive, but a negative just means try again tomorrow.

If the possibility of not finding the heartbeat one day (which is usually because the baby's just not in a good position for it!) will cause you to panic, you might be better off not getting one and avoiding the stress.

  • I bought my doppler off of ebay for $50.00. Its called a sonoline B. I was only 12 weeks when I bought it and we found the baby's heart beat right away. Its the best thing to have and it looks just like the one the doctor uses! The week that we bought it we took it to both parents houses so that they could hear the baby! So that was fun because our parents could be apart of it too! Its $50.00 which seems like alot but I think in the end its totally worth it! Congradulation on your pregnancy!
  • I bought a Sonoline B off ebay for about $60 when I was around 12 weeks.  It has worked really well for me too.  I used it 2-4 times per week and never had any problems finding the heartbeat until later on in the pregnancy when he must have been moving around or something. I haven't used it in awhile though.
