C-sections

Contact lens during C section?

Hi everyone. I'm normally a lurker but I have a question for all you ladies who have had a c section before. Did you wear your contacts during the procedure or your glasses. The L&D nurse and the nurse at my Dr.s office gave me conflicting answers. So I'm confused! L&D nurse said they would be fine. Dr.s office nurse said no I had to wear glasses. ( I asked Dr office first and they had to call me back, during that time I called L&D to confirm check in so I decided to ask them too. Then Dr's office nurse left message saying I had to wear glasses) Not a huge deal but I'm confused and definately more comfortable in my contacts! Thanks!

  • I wore mine during.  But I have night and day contacts that I can sleep in.  Not sure if that makes a difference.  I think part of it depends if your comfortable sleeping in them (if you would have to be put to sleep for any reason).  That last part is just a guess though, because they asked me if I sleep in mine.

  • my doctor told me not to wear them in case they need to put you completely asleep. so I am just gonna wear my glasses. good-luck! my scheduled c/s is next Monday
  • Do you know how you're being put under?

For either a spinal or epi, contacts would be fine-- I wore mine with an epi without problems. But if you're getting general anesthesia, I'd opt for glasses. HTH.

  • I will wear mine unless they specifically have me take them out. And then I will beg. I am way more comfortable in my contacts!!

For some reason during my emergency c last time they took my glasses and I couldn't see at all. It sucked BIG time.

  • They made me wear glasses! I have no idea why-- I was never asleep. Weird, I am going to request otherwise this time and see how that goes.

  • I wore them and just notified the anesthesiologist that I had them on incase an emergency came up.

  • Glasses. I hate them but they said it was better in case something more emeregency occured and I needed to go fully under. Made sense to me. I wore them last time and will again this time.

  • Contacts.  I had an emergency C under general and I was fine.  I don't know that they ever asked me beforehand.

  • Too late now, but I wore my glasses. I could have worn my contacts, but I chose my glasses.

  • I wore my contacts from when I left for the hospital at 5am through labor, pushing, c/s, and the few hours of sleep I got afterward. I forgot they were in. I took them out sometime the next day and had no probs.
