We are in a bad rut. Almost every single day I put Warner down for his nap and within 10-15 minutes of me leaving the room he has a poopy diaper. It's like clockwork. So more than a month ago, I started putting him on the potty before his nap and talking about how great it would be if he went poopy on the potty. I've bribed him with treats, we've read books, we've sung potty songs (I re-woked "Down by the station" to be "down on the potty", talented lyricist that I am!), but nothing has worked. And the nap crapping continues.
It's so dumb that he goes at the same time every single day, but won't go in the potty. Is this something that will fix itself once he's actually potty trained? (which we're nowhere near yet) Any suggestions?
Re: napping and potty training
do you always put him down at the same time? can you wait 20 mins and then put him down and hopefully he'll poop during that time?
DD had an issue where she would only poop on the potty at daycare but not at home. Sometimes she would go in her diaper at naptime or overnight but other times, she would just hold it for the whole weekend.
I asked the DCP what to do and she said to give her plenty of time. I realized that I was making her get off the potty too soon due to my own impatience. Now sometimes we'll sit in there for 10-15 minutes after she tells me "I need to go poopoo". I'm not sure if that is your issue but maybe getting him to sit there longer may help? To keep her on the potty, I bribe her any way possible. I let her watch TV (you can see it from our family room bathroom), feed her animal crackers, etc. It seems to help and she goes on the potty more at home. However, she still sometimes goes in her diaper so it hasn't completely eliminated the problem.
