Does this sound like an allergy to oats?

With DH just turning 6 months, I started with solids and chose oatmeal since he tends to be constipated so wanted to try that instead of rice cereal. He got only a tiny amount (he didn't seem to like the whole solid thing). He got maybe a tablespoon am and pm for 2 days and I'm not sure how much actually made it in. After the first day he started getting a diaper rash. He tends to get red pretty easily, but this is the first time he's gotten an actual bumpy rash. I stopped giving it to him and 2 days later the rash is gone. I realized though that his baby wash and lotion are Aveeno baby and they have oats in them. He gets a bath 3 times a week and lotion maybe once. If he were allergic to oats his body wash should cause a reaction shouldn't it? He is allergic to milk.

    i would think he would also react to the body wash if he was allergic to oats.  But than again, nothing surprises me when it comes to allergies.

    What type of oatmeal did you give him? what brand? some have milk in it. I know earths best doesn't but many do.

    My daughter is allergic to oats, but does not react to her Aveeno body wash and shampoo, which has oats. 

    It may be an oat allergy, but I would be curious as to what else is in the brand you gave him.

    It could also be a gluten or wheat allergy.  Most oats are processed with wheat flour.  Maybe get some gluten free oats and try those, or try cream of wheat and see if he reacts the same to plain wheat.  Poor baby!  Hope you figure it out.
