My OB nurse gave me some samples of prescription PNV'S to try out. She said if I liked one she'd give me a Rx for one. I'm currently taking the Spring Valley PNV + DHA from Walmart. I asked her which she'd recomend and she was kind of wishy washy. She just said to try them out. I was wondering if any of you take these currently or have tried them?

I've taken Prefera and OB Complete samples in the past.... right now I just take the Target gummy vitamins with DHA and extra folic acid (2mg) as prescribed by my RE.
Honestly, I think a lot of the hype behind the RX PNVs is that the doctors have to "push" them bc of their contracts with pharma reps... the reps fill up their cabinets with samples, they get you to fill a RX and the rep gets their commission... I don't think they are worse then OTC, but I can't imagine they are really that different.... just my unprofessional .02 cents...
I've never tried any of those, but I've been on Trinate Rx PNV's since Fall 2009. At my 7 week appointment they sampled me some called Concept DHA. All of them make me queezy without a full glass of water and/or food in my tummy.
My OB didn't even give me any samples when she learned I had been taking One a Day prenatals for the last year before my BFP. She said they have everything in them that I needed and I tolerate them well. Saves me lots of $$.

I tried the samples and went with citranatal until I realized how much it cost! $60+ a month! I had my dr and pharmacist switch me to a generic and now I pay $4 a month. Crazy huh?

I have an Rx for Prenatal Plus tabs. I went with the Rx only because my out of pocket max is met so everything is paid at 100%. I haven't been able to take them for a while now because of the nausea, so I've been taking prenatal gummies with DHA instead. I hope to switch back once those are gone to save me some money.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm kind of torn as to whether or not I want to pay for the Rx. I don't know how much they'll cost with my insurance, which would be the deciding factor for me. I guess I'll try my samples and if I find one I really love, I might go for it. If not, I'll stick with my OTC.

You should be able to check your insurance's formulary to determine what tier the PNV are in. Then you will know how much you will be expected to pay. You could always call ask ask a customer service rep. I take prescription PNV (not one on your list) and an OTC DHA supplement.

I take the Citranatal Assure when I'm not too cheap to get it refilled ($50 for me a month). Right now I am taking the Kroger gummy prenatals but I know I need to refill my RX soon since the gummies don't have iron.
Are the rx ones any smaller? I've never had issues with pills before but now my gag reflex seems to be in overdrive!
Compaired to the ones I'm taking now, the Prefera OB ones are a bit smaller. The Nexa Select ones are much longer. CitraNatal Assure and OB Complete Premier are about the same size.

Some OTC prenatals don't actually have in them all the vitamins/minerals the label claims. Consumer reports had an article about this. Some do. I remember the target brand was one of the good ones.

I really loved the citranatal+DHA however I found a lot of pharmacy's had to order them so it took a little longer to get. Oh and it's plant based and has natural stool softeners in them.
I liked the prefer OB+DHA because it was smaller and easier to swallow. Don't know what this matters but it has 2 types of iron in it.
OB complete premier was horrible for me. I could taste the fish oil and iron in it and it made me sick.
Never heard of the Nexa select+ DHA.

I also take an Rx Prenatal vitamin: Select OB + DHA. Both my OBGYN and my Fertility specialist approved it. I have no problems with it. I
If I were you, I'd check the contents of each Rx and make a decision based on the best nutritional value and less artificial ingredients.
