I'm posting this for my sister since she is at work. She is approx 8 weeks along and has had light bleeding since Friday AM. How much and how long is it normal to have light bleeding? She's not bleeding enough to require a pad or anything so it's really light. Is this normal or should she be concerned? She talked to a nurse who just said to come in if it got heavier but didn't say anything else.
Thanks ladies!
Re: Concerned for my sister
When this happened my Midwife told me 8-12 weeks is implantation bleeding, if it's followed w/ heavy cramping, and the bleeding gets worse and/or lasts longer than 2 days to follow up w/ the doctor. From personal experience I'd say she sounds ok. But then again you didn't say whether she was having major cramping.
Major cramping is typically period like or VERY intense cramping. Also the color of the blood is a good indicator as well. Is it pink or bright red? Thin or thick? etc. If her physicians office thinks she's ok for now that's what I would go with. Tell her to up her H2O intake to about a gallon a day (if she already drinks that much than up it a few glasses more) and to rest as much as she can. If it's possible I'd take a day off of work if I were her just to relax and kick my feet up and drink TONS of water.
Hope that helps!
Shouldn't that be days, not weeks?
no... she wouldn't know she was pregnant at 8-12 days... But I get what you're saying. My post should have read "When this happened to me my midwife told me around 8-12 weeks is implantation bleeding"
I am confused, too. I thought that the fetus implanted at 8-12 days past ovulation... I mean, how can one get a positive pregnancy test if the fetus hasn't even implanted yet?
Exactly.
OP- I would tell your sister to request to speak with her doctor and hopefully he / she will go ahead and do an ultrasound . If it's not heavy and no cramping that's a good thing!
M/C October 25th 2010. Its been almost 6 years since I said goodbye
Her midwife isn't an idiot (a little harsh perhaps). I had light spotting at 5 weeks and my doctor told me that's what it was (so would be closer to 21 days after ovulation). I do think the 8-12 weeks is a little late for it (although last poster just confirmed that it's not!), but it can also be caused by having sex, being constipated...anything that made her strain a little bit. I guess there's just a LOT of blood hanging out in and around the uterus right now.
