First Dr Visit Scheduled!

I just called and scheduled my first OB appt and was oddly thrilled to write it down in my calendar. It feels so much more "official" now. Anyone else get this excited to schedule an appointment?

And if this isn't your first rodeo, can you tell me what to expect at the first visit? I'll be about 6 1/2 weeks when I go. Should I bring DH with me?

Re: First Dr Visit Scheduled!

  • It depends on your office. When I had DD the office I went to I met the nurse, filled out paperwork and family history, and got bloodwork. Then scheduled an appointment for my next visit. At my doctor now they do an ultrasound and have first doctor visit at the first appointment. If you aren't sure, you can call them back and ask what the first appointment will involve.

  • Mine is scheduled for tomorrow morning! With my previous pregnancies they usually had me fill out a bunch of paperwork, the dr did an exam, I got a slip for lab work, and usually a little goody bag with magazines and various other things..but every doctor/office is different!

  • Totally depends on the office.  I went at 8 weeks, PIAC, blood pressure, weight, they did some cultures to check for STDs, blood draw, and I got an internal u/s and got to see the h/b.

  • I am 4 weeks pregnant! I also just called my doctors this morning and they schedule me for my appointment (10 weeks). She told me to bring my spouse because they would be doing a sonogram and listening to the heart beat. She also said I would have an exam and urine test as well! I am so excited!!

  • Thanks, y'all! Maybe I'll call them back when it gets closer and ask them what to expect.

  • Yay! I will also be 6 weeks when I see the doctor. When we were pregnant the first time they saw us right after we found out and they did an internal u/s, gave us a goody bag, and drew blood. I believe they are seeing me early this time because of our m/c from our first. Either way, putting it down feels pretty awesome!
  • It is hard to tell you exactly what to expect since every doctors office is so different. With my DS, my first appointment was paperwork, and exam including a pap, and blood work. I also met with a nutritionist for a few minutes to go over what they recommend you do and don't eat.  Some doctors will do a dating ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy and or to check the dates if you are unsure of your LMP. At 6 1/2 weeks you will not be able to hear the heart beat unless they do a vaginal u/s.
  • Yeah, what everyone said :)

I already had my first appointment, but it was with a nurse. She confirmed my pregnancy via urine test, gave me a script for blood work (to have done before next appt) and gave me a goody bag, and had me fill out tons of paperwork.  When that was done, I went to desk and scheduled my first REAL real appointment with midwife.
