Gentian violet stain removal or prevention

So, I have a yeast infection and my LC recommended using gentian violet.  My first application was a horrible failure... purple EVERYWHERE!  My poor baby is all purple too.  What is the best way to get some of it off (or all of it off), safely?  Also, how can I prevent such a mess the next go around?  I have to reapply and use this stuff for the next 3 days or so...

    We put vasoline on baby's lips and the stains came out of the clothes with Oxi Clean in hot water in the washing machine
