I just noticed last night that after I ate dinner, it felt like I had food stuck on the back of my tongue. I thought nothing of it until today when all day I had the same feeling even when I wasn't eating. I looked in the back of my throat and it looks like I have a couple enlarged bumps that are giving me that feeling...they don't hurt and my throat isn't sore...has anyone had this when preggers? Is it normal?
the bumps are not in my throat...just the very back of the tongue.
Re: Bumps on very back of tongue...normal?
They are totally normal and everyone has them. They are called circumvallate lingual papillae and contain taste buds. They may have enlarged a little with all your hormone changes but are nothing to worry about. You usually have 10-14 on the very back of your tongue.
You may also have some called tonsilloliths which can make it seem like there is something stuck in your throat/tongue. They are usually harmless but smelly deposits of minerals that dislodge on their own. You are more prone if you tend to have frequent colds/sinus issues or tonsillitis.
