I am getting ready to move away from my family and back to my Husband's military post (this is not really a military question so I didn't put it there). I was packing boxes today and putting them in the spare room so there would be less clutter in the house. I have been working for a good 4 hours. I started to cramp a little and had to stop because I thought maybe me working too hard would be bad for the baby. I am in between a rock and a hard place because I have to do all of this myself. We can't afford movers and don't qualify for the army to move us because I had the choice to stay in that town while he was deployed.....it wasn't based on any PCS (changing duty station) orders. My parents and grandparents can't do this...so it is just me.
Anyways, I chose 14x14x14 boxes because I can fill them all the way up and they are not too heavy or hard to move for me. I have a severe case of a one-track mind and even though I have until the 15th to get packed up I can not help but want it done RIGHT NOW. How much should I do per day so it won't damage mine or the baby's health? Should pare it down to an hour or a couple of hours with frequent breaks?
Re: How much Can I do?
Just listen to your body. Do what you can until you feel tired, then rest with your feet up. Drink plenty of water also.
Do you not know anyone else that can help? Friends? I wouldn't have a problem packing up my stuff, but lifting/carrying/loading boxes would certainly push me to the limit. My body seems to be finicky though and I get crampy just cleaning the house.
I have the same issue with the mall...me and mom go every weekend but now that I am pregnant I don't like waking around everywhere like I used to do....I don't know how I am gonna figure out Christmas shopping....
I got half the house packed up...I may just wait and do the rest later
Part of it will depend on your current physical activity level. Have you been active with weights, or have a job where you lift things normally? You should really take it easy if you haven't been exercising much. As for moving... pack the necessary items first & maybe wait for the other stuff till the end, or maybe bring them back over the holiday.
14 x 14 size box is a decent size, but be sure not to pack heavy items together. Maybe put a few books & shoes together to make it lighter. Unpacking will suck, but at least it won't be too difficult to carry/lift. Also, I agree with the frequent breaks & water.
Drink lots of water, take frequent breaks and try to space it out so you're only doing a little at a time. I don't think giving a specific amount of hours is a good idea because it really depends on your body. If you feel up to it, keep going! If you're tired or not feeling great, do less!
If you can, I'd also suggest doing a bit in the morning, taking a couple hour break. Going back at lunchtime, couple hour break, evening, break and bed. Just don't push yourself too much! Luckily you're a planner and have a good start!
