Ouch Ganirelix!!

Woah, I just gave myself my first injection of Ganirelex and WOW did that hurt!! Anyone else find that to be the most painful injection? It also looks like I have tiny bumps now next to the injection site. Think that's bad?? Owwww I am not looking forward to doing it again tomorrow AM.

thank you for listening to me *** ;)

  • I found that to be my worst one too.  It stung for awhile afterwards.  Good luck!

  • The nurses warned me about Ganirelix.  The needle is dull.  Why?  I couldn't tell you.  Icing about 20 minutes before really helped me.  Sorry you had trouble with it.  If you have time in the morning, I strongly recommend icing!  Good luck :-)

  • Oh gurl, I know! Those Ganirelix needles look like they were picked up off the street behind a medical clinic! They are so dull. I never iced for the subQ injections, but I iced for as long as I could with that one! I did them in the mornings, so it was nice to space them out. Good luck!!

  • Thanks for the tips on icing! I didn't notice a different when I iced for the Menopur or Gonal F, but Ganirelex was horrible and I'm still sore 20 mins later so I'll do whatever it takes! I'm hoping I don't have to be on this one too much longer. Come on trigger!! Thanks ladies :)

I can't speak to Gonal F, but as for Menopur, the pain wasn't the needle, it was the medication delivery.  With Gani, I don't think the medication stings.  It's the needle that's nasty, so I think you'll find icing to be helpful.  :-)

I completely agree! I was actually thinking that when typing my last post.

I thought the opposite.  I thought it was the meds with the Ganirelex that stung. I was sore for good hour afterwards.  Thankfully I only had to do that one for 5 days not 10.  :)

  • I have super sensitive skin so I got the bumps too, like a rash that itched like a mother. But it went away after about an hour. Nurse said it was normal with the Gani, I'm a nurse as well so I was pretty confident I wasn't having a real allergic reaction, just local. But always safe to check with your nurse to make sure.

  • Yeah my rash went away too. I will mention it to my RN next time I speak to her. Thanks!

  • Ugh I hate that one.  It was fine going in, but burned and itched for 30 minutes afterwards.
