Babies: 9 - 12 Months

XP: Not getting enough milk?

Sorry, cross posting this here since 6-9 board is dead and seems like lots of the 8 month old mommies are already moved over to here....

My DD has been having some serious congestion which makes it tough for her to breastfeed.  This on top of teething has made the whole experience of breastfeeding less desirable for both of us.  So, I've been trying to give her more EBM and EBM/formula mix in her sippy cup throughout the day.  But she won't take much.  I'm concerned about the amount of milk she's getting.  Anyone else have an LO that has dropped their milk intake around this age? (she eats 3 solid meals & a small snack most days also)

She nurses in the morning, then takes milk from a sippy during the day (anywhere from 3 oz - 8 oz) and then nurses in the evening.  The last two nights she STTN, so that's been it.  Doesn't seem like much.

She's 8 months old and is a little over 20 lbs.

  • How is her diaper output?  That and good growth is all you really need to worry about. Babies are very efficient at this age!

  • Diaper output seems normal.  I'll be curious about growth since she seems like she's not growing much lately (though that could be all the extra mobility she's recently gained too!)  She's certainly a good size for her age though - I'm just thinking she isn't needed as much because her growth has slowed (and maybe she gets a lot from those 2 nursing sessions?)

  • Some baby's start dropping nursing sessions about this time as they start getting more from solid foods.  They also are more interested in the outside world so it is harder to get them to settle down and eat.  Also with congestion babies tend to take smaller amounts more frequently since they have a hard time breathing when stuffy.  I would say she is probably fine, but if you are concerned contact your Dr.
