Any quilters on here?

I have been sewing for a few years now and am thinking about teaching myself how to quilt. I thought a good starter project would be to make my DD a quilt for her toddler bed (we are switching her over soon).

How big do you think a toddler bed quilt should be? Also, how much fabric do you think is enough?

What kind of stuff do you sew? I have no experience with quilting, but would like to hear more about sewing. I have been doing scarfs, but can't seem to get myself beyond that.
