Hi ladies, I usually lurk, but just need to get it out there...
My husband and I finished up our first month of trying. I had all my usual PMS symptoms, and was spotting a little, so I was sure this month was a bust. I finally had one day of light flow, so I was pretty convinced it wasn't happening for us.
However, yesterday I had absolutely no flow whatsoever, and woke up to the same this morning. I took a FRER with FMU, and to my surprise, had a very faint but very pink line. In shock, I took a First Response Digital about an hour later, and it was negative.
I'm not sure what to think. I know there are a thousand of these posts almost word for word, so I'm sorry. I understand that I tested too soon after with the digital, and that hcg levels need to be more concentrated for a positive result. I know I need to retest later in the week.
I'm going to be hopeful, but not too hopeful.........thanks for listening.
Re: Possible BFP...trying not to get hopes up.
Dealing with MFI, good count, good motility, 3% morph-HSG all clear, all other test results came back normal, IUI is our next step
May 2012- Clomid 50mg + IUI = BFN
June- Cycle Break
July- Forced cycle break due to cysts
August- Femara, Trigger, IUI#2= ?
I would retest in a couple of days.
Different tests can detect different levels of hCG. I'm not sure what the sensitivity levels are of the FRER and the FR Digital, but even if they have the same sensitivity, sometimes an individual test can detect hCG at levels lower than the advertised test rate. That could lead to one test being positive, and another being negative.
Also, unless you tested with the same urine sample, you may not have had urine that was concentrated enough to detect the hCG with the digital. FMU is suggested because it tends to be the most concentrated (from holding it all night, and not drinking), and thus has the highest levels of hCG for the amount of urine. If your urine was too diluted, it can give you a false negative. Try holding your urine in for at least 4 hours, and don't drink or eat a ton in the mean time, and then retest.

The FRER is more sensitive than the digital so what happened makes complete sense. If you got 2 lines on the FRER then you're pregnant. Congrats. Enjoy the 1st Tri board.

Digital tests are not as sensitive, so that could have given you your false positive right there....add in the fact that you got a FAINT line on the other one with FMU, or an hour later your urine was probably too diluted, I wouldn't be surprised if non-FMU would result in a BFN on the same test you took the first time.
Wait a few days (if you can, or at least tomorrow morning) and take another one of whatever you took the first time with FMU, if the line is still there, or even darker, congrats your KU!
