what's your take on sluty costumes

I do not have a problem with sexy sluty halloween costumes GIVEN THEY ARE WORN AT THE RIGHT PLACE (ie: the bar = ok. middle school parade=/= ok)

My firends & I have always said you can dress anyway you want on the following three special days:

Halloween

New Years

Your Birthday

(Also there is an age limit, like 18/19-24-26'ish)

I totally agree with you. I had this problem when I was looking for a costume for me. I am 33 yrs old, gave birth twice, and cannot pull of the slutty costumes anymore. I did find a few non slutty costumes, but I ended up not buying one. I might next year once E is older and can appreciate it more.

I think if you are attending a party with no children, then yes, a slutty outfit is okay.

But a party with kids under 18, I dont think it should be allowed. Halloween is not an excuse to walk around in an outfit screaming "F*CK ME"

I bought a slutty cop costume once while in college. I never wore it because it's about 19 degrees here on Halloween. I think if you're in college and going to a house party/bar it's not a huge deal, but that's really the only time I can see it being ok.

other than that I say depends on the circumstances. I saw a pic from this weekend that made me go EW EW EW. My former boss, her daughter is 18. For Halloween, at a party given at her parent's house, by her parents, she dressed up as a "victoria's secret angel." Yup that's right....wore her bra and underwear and high heels. The pic I saw was one (of many) and in it she was standing next to her (smiling?) dad and the pic was posted on her mom's FB page. Mind you, both parents are business owners (separate businesses) and there was underage drinking in the pic. Just wrong on so many levels.

Yes this is VERY wrong on many levels. I said it was ok AT THE BAR, not your parents halloween party. Maybe I should add, dressing like that at a middle school OR old folks home are not acceptable.

PS, way to be the "cool parents" let your kid drink AND post it on FB Hmm While your daughter is dressed in her panties.

This. As in that snow white costume at a kids activity at the zoo, worn by a teen, not cool. But worn by an adult at an adults only block party, totally cool.

I have a Monday FFC. Last year, a couple of days before halloween, DH and I went to Twin Peaks for lunch with C. They were dressed in halloween costumes appropriate to that venue. This is a pic of wait staff in their normal "uniform".

Since we ep-ed, C had no clue about the boobs, nor did he care that all these women wanted to hold and cuddle him.

I am the same way...but it doesn't feel right. I am not a huge Halloween person anyway but to me I'd rather be something where I can wear something figure-flattering but not slutty. Sexy maybe...but tasteful. Even though I can pull some of that stuff off it feels like I'm trying too hard if I do. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should (that being a general "you." If you're comfortable, go for it!)

I love sarcasm, irony, bad taste, sex appeal and just the general opportunity to be bad a$$ on halloween. It's just one day a year. Obviously there are two halloweens - one for the family and another for social aspect with friends. I love both.

I've been:

Brittney circa 1999 in a catholic school belly shirt with "hit me baby one more time" written on my belly with lipliner.

Alabama - the hooker from True Romance

Little red riding hood - Courtney Love "kinder whore" stylee.

So I'm biased. I do however think that pre-packaged costumes for adults are dumb. Slutty or not. Preparation and creativity are half of the fun, no one needs to spend $40 + on a nylon piece of crap fabricated in China that you will never wear again.

If you can pull it off, I think sexy is fine, but I don't think slutty is good. If I weren't pregnant, I know that DH would be all about me getting a sexy costume to wear to an adults-only party as he has always suggested in past years. Actually, even this year we are doing a "Star Wars" theme as a family - DS is Yoda, I am Princess Leia, and DH is Han Solo. I specifically picked this theme so I could wear the flowy white Leia robe... DH was like "I think you should wear the slave-girl bikini." Hello, I am 5 months pregnant... nobody wants to see that!

Agree it doesn't bother me but last year a bunch of high school slutty girls showed up on my doorstep. I was not thrilled with that. I just looked at them and finally they said, "What! we are dressed up can we have candy." They are fine in the right setting and I believe a lot of the *slutty* costumes can easily be de-sluttified by not wearing hooker heels and fishnets or thigh highs and replacing with flats and solid tights or leggings.

I can't imagine wearing costumes like that to take the kids trick or treating in. Even if it's nice out, it's still pretty cool here at this time of year and I have no desire to wear a short skirt (which seems to be the requirement for slutty costumes). And I HATE that everything else looks like a BAG :-P I found a t-shirt costume this year that I bought. so excited to wear it!

Disagree. My MIL is 55 and still wearing slutty (not sexy, slutty trampy) Halloween costumes. There is an age limit!

If your kids are old enough to be embarrassed, you definitely can't wear a slutty costume anymore.

I agree. If you're going out with adults, it's fine. If you're working at a daycare, like a woman DH and I saw at DS's school last week, it's a bad decision.
