The first few months were rough. Lots of spotting and still heavy period, but when i got it put in I was having AF for up to 10 days already. I am down to about 2 days of AF. I have had it for 6 months. I do wish it helped with acne like BC did, but I really like not worrying about getting pregnant since we are done.
I've peaked in several of these type of posts and side effects seem to vary quite a bit. For me, insertion was pretty rough. It hurt pretty bad and then I had horrible cramping for 2 days. Yet I've heard others say no pain, no cramps. I bled for a few days, then spotted for about 6 weeks off and on. I've had it since January and haven't had a period or any other symptoms since the spotting went away.
I still have times of the month where my CM thickens and I assume I'm ovulating. I tend to avoid having sex on those days just in case.

I got mine in at 8 wks pp. Insertion was easy, no pain, no cramping after. In the 2 years I've had it, I have only had 3 episodes of very light spotting. No real periods. And none of the PMS symptoms I had before.
I love it. It will definitely be my only method of BC from now on.. we'll get it taken out when we are ready for another child, then put one right back in again when we are done.
I got mine 6 weeks ago, 9 weeks PP. The insertions wasnt really painful just a lot of pressure. I had bleeding for two days following insertion. then about 5 days after that I started light spotting for a week, No bleeding since then. No other side effects. So far I like it.
I just got mine out and I have had mixed feelings.
Pros:
Like no period whatsoever, don't have to remember the pill,
Cons:
Still got AF PMS symptoms and they were 400X worse for me (sore boobs, acne, bloating, sore lower back, mood swings like I was bi-polar)
All and all I am not having another one put in after we are done having #2 (TTC right now). I will go on the pill again or look into the patch because it I had a difficult time having it removed (doc cut strings waaaay too short) and my PMS on the pill was never that bad

This exactly for me! No pain, no cramps, no period since-it's been great! Although I have to say I've had HORRIFIC acne since I was pregnant and I'm not sure if the mirena has anything to do with it. I thought it was just pg/pp hormones first, but at over 2 years out I'm not sure I can blame it on that anymore. But I also can't say for sure that it's the mirena and I love it too much to take it out to see.

It was very painful for me to have it placed. However, I have had 2 c-sections. I have been told it's much less painful if you have had a vaginal delivery, or at least dilated. I had some spotting for about 2 weeks and some cramping for a few days. Other than that, it's been wonderful. I have yet to have a period.
I can't speak on the getting pregnant on it. I don't think it happens very often if it's placed properly and stays put.
