Multiples

What do I need two of?

My parents bought us two cribs. Other than that what do I need two of? Swings? Bouncey seats?  Obviously carseats, but how about all the other stuff. I am a first time mom and I do not know anyone with multiples. I need advice. :)

Re: What do I need two of?

  • It seems like a lot of people have a difference of opinion on this but this is what we have done:

    1 swing

2 different kinds of bouncey seats

    2 boppies

    2 bumbos

    2 baby bjorns

    2 highchairs

  • Looking back I could not have made it through the first 4 months without 2 swings and 2 bouncy seats.  That was VERY helpful.

  • As CMW said, you'll get different answers from different people, but based on what I've read, here's what we have (or are planning to buy :)):

    * 1 swing (will buy a second later if they both like it)

    * 2 bouncy seats (different types) Some people would recommend getting 2 per floor so you're not lugging them up and downstairs.

    * 1 playmat (possibly a second later if they both like it), plus a play arch I could set on a regular blanket

    * 1 Exersaucer. Possibly one of those and one jumperoo once they're old enough; depends on what they like. :)

    * Both an Arm's Reach Original Co-sleeper and a Graco Pack 'n' Play--the AROC for them to sleep in in our room the first few months and then as a second playard/travel bed after that.

    * Two highchairs/feeding seats (you might want to consider the Fisher-Price Space-Saver Highchair or something like the First Years Infant to Toddler Feeding Seat, esp if you're short on space)

    * Two different types of carriers to start with (a Moby wrap and an Ergo carrier, and possibly a Peanut Shell as well)

With clothes, I've heard you need about 1.5 times the amount you would need for one baby (possibly more if they're different sexes and you aren't into gender-neutral clothing; definitely more if you don't want to do laundry that often ;)).

And that's awesome that your parents bought you two cribs!

  • My #1 thing I could not live without two of is the bouncy seat--if you can I would agree with the pp and say to actually get 4 if you have two floors in your house.  Also, I say 2 swings (but I waited to open the 2nd one until I saw that they liked the first one since it was expensive) but I could probably live with only one--I rarely have them swinging at the same time but like having two so one can be in the family room and one in the nursery.  Also, I would say two changing tables/stations--one for the nursery and one for where you spend the majority of your time during the day (we have another one in the family room).  The one in the nursery goes with the furniture and I bought it new and I just got the one in the family room from a yardsale--could not live without both of them.

  • Ah yes, ditto one changing station per floor.

We have one for the nursery (it's just a contour changing pad and a basket with the essentials, so we can put it in our room in those first months when they're in the co-sleeper) and the Pnp, which we'll have downstairs, also has a changing table.
