Harrison

This is one of DH's favorites on our list right now. I like it, especially due to the Beatle's reference (if you've seen my boy's name list, you've probably noticed I have a slight Beatles obsession), but am worried about the nickname Harry. I hate Harry. Nevermind the numerous jokes kids will use against a kid names Harry, it's just an ugly name. I've heard of people using Harris and a nickname for Harrison, which is cute, but I have a feeling no matter what, Harry is inevitable with this name. What do you think?

I like Harrison, but because of the little boy on Dexter, he is SO damn cute. I don't think Harry is inevitable at all. If you call him Harrison and later on he introduces himself as "Harrison," that should be what people call him. If he grows up and chooses to be called Harry, you can't really have a say in that one though.

As far as kids making fun...if kids want to make fun of someone, they will do it regardless of the name. Don't let that sway your decision.

I think you have control of nickames up to a certain point. Up until he's old enough it's easy to avoid Harry. But bear in mind at some point be may decide he'd like too go by Harry and there's very little you can do about it.

I love Harrison, but also hate Harry. If it didn't totally suck with our last name we would risk it and just insist at every turn that he be called Harrison or Harris. I know many people that do not use nn's and after a while people stop trying.

I think Harrison is very cute!

IMO if you never call your son Harry (I dont like it myself) then others wont. Just call him Harrison, or Harris (Harris is cute too) then others will too!

I like Jameson, but fear the nn James..I REALLY dont want my child to be called James, so I know how you feel

I am realizing more and more that NNs start at home and if you never call him Harry there is no reason for anyone else to do it.

I love the name Harrison is #2 on our list

Harrison Ford and the baby in Dexter don't get called Harry. If you tell people his name is HARRISON, then that's his name!
