I'm sure this is asked a lot..Xmas gift for daycare teacher- how much to spend?

I'm googling, but lots of ranges are coming up. What are you spending on your day care teachers for christmas/holidays this year? Also, do you get anything for the directors?

DS has 2 daycare teachers, he'll be in their room for nearly a year come Christmas, and will transition out in the new year. I have no idea what to get them, and if I should buy a gift or give them cash/gift cards. Any ideas appreciated! For reference, we spend about $700/month on daycare, its a center. Thanks!

  • we'll probably give his main teacher a yankee candle and possibly a starbucks gc.

  • I think the amount of the gift depends on your COL, how much your daycare costs, and how much you can afford. But I would do a gift card or cash. I'm planning to give gifts to LO's teachers, but probably not the director or AD.

  • DD goes to an in home daycare.  Last year we added an extra $150 to our check and tucked it inside a card with a poem about what a blessing she is to us.  DD was only about 4 months then, so harder to care for.

Not sure what we'll do this year...  Probably extra cash again.

When I worked daycare at a center, and now as a teacher, I would love to get giftcards to Target/Walmart/Amazon (or those visa giftcards).  I hate getting Starbucks giftcards because I don't drink coffee and don't go there often for anything else.  I have about $50 in Starbucks giftcards and that will last me the rest of my life I think.

  • I second PP - Amazon or Target Giftcards are great!

  • I give cash - $50. Is that enough? When she has had 2 teachers we gave $50 to each. Now that she has one, I may up it to $75 or so. Anyway, I hate getting gift cards to places I never go, and who can't use extra cash around the holidays?

ETA: DD is in a pre k class at a daycare center.
  • I usually do Target GCs ranging from $35 to $10.  I usually don't do the directors or office staff but give them some baked goods or coffee instead.

  • I think this is a very personal decision and the teachers and directors know this and just appreciate any kind of recognition.  I tend to overspend for them because I am ridiculously thankful for them.  In the past, I have purchased $10 DD gift cards for each teacher with a hand written card (about 10 teachers and 2 directors).  For his main teachers, I do something larger, usually about 50/each for 2 teachers (Gap gift card, or something like that).
  • I normally do 25-30 for the main teachers and then 10 for floaters. Remember there is teacher appreciation week in the spring too.

  • We use an in-home provider and she is amazing with our DD.  I plan to give her an extra week's pay.

  • We use an in home provider who has really dropped the ball lately...she is going through a divorce. I won't do as much as I usually do. I usually give her an extra week's pay.

  • I have an in-home day care for my DD...I plan on giving her a $50 Visa gift card.  I can't afford to give her a week's pay, but I am sure that she will appreciate the gift card to buy whatever she wants.

  • I would recommend a GC or cash.  I don't know how much you feel comfortable spending.  But it is the person/people who take care of your child...

As an elementary teacher, I always appreciate the GCs (we don't get cash Wink).

  • DS just started a new in home daycare (we just moved last month) but I plan on giving her $50-$100 cash and maybe some baked goods.  She is great with him and he really loves her.
