I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes on Friday and i have an appt to the dietician on wed and i was hoping you girls could give me some advice. Will i have to deliver early?
I have also been having a lot of BH contractions but my dr doesnt even let me tell him what they feel like or when they happen he just says it's normal if you have no vaginal discharge and it is so frustrating that he blows me off. Any ideas? is it normal i have them on and off all day i usually have 3-5 an hour then some hours i only have 1 or 2.
also i am having a lot of hip/pelvic pain it is so bad that i can't sleep again all my dr says is your pregnant it's normal.
Any advice or suggestions are appreciated. thank you
Re: a couple questions
I don't know anything about GD, for those things you really have to talk to the experts.
For the BH contractions, general rule of thumb is 5-10 in an hour requires notifying your OB. If you are having them on and off all day, then it shouldn't be something to worry over. I have felt the "blow off" attitude from the nurses at my OB when I asked them about Braxton Hicks. They really are not concerned unless they are happening in a rhythmic pattern, or more than 10 in an hour, or are combined with bleeding and/or heavy cramping. You might try and drink more water (120 ounces a day, think a gallon). Dehydration can be the number one cause for cramping and BH contractions.
For the hip/pelvic pain, try changing positions, stretching, a warm bath, a walk, or even some Acetaminophen (Tylenol). Keep your feet elevated when you can, and stay hydrated!! It can be frustrating to feel all the aches and weird pains, and get the brush off, but try not to worry too much
I am not sure about the gestational diabetes=early delivery thing. My mother had GD, and I was 2 weeks late, so I doubt that you will have to. As far as the pains and brush off... I am with you! I hate that. Especially as a first-time mom, it makes me angry that my OB just says "Yeah well, that's pregnancy". It's like, could we please just have an informative talk without the sarcasm? As far as what to do, definitely what was posted above. I have heard upping your water intake does wonders, and it may help with some of the pain in your hips as well. Staying hydrated helps cushion the muscles.
Good luck and positive thoughts are coming your way!!!
Are you going in fro monitoring for the GD? When do you see your OB next? I would make a list up of questions you have, even if you have answers already for them, just to see what he says.
Sorry I can't help with the GD.I know that my dr's office allows calls in, and the receptionist will take name and number, and the nurse will call you back when she has a few minutes to talk. The nurse is always very nice, understanding and straight forward. It might be worth giving your dr's office a call and talk to the nurse if they have a similar thing.
As far as the BH, that sounds similar to what I'm experienceing. My dr suggested that I may have an irritable uterus. Some days I'll have up to 8 contractions in an hour. As long as they don't get super painful, I'm not going to worry about it. I have found that being super well hydrated (much more fluids than I expected to have to drink), really helps the intensity of the contractions. But on the other hand, a full bladder is a trigger for me, so it means looooots of trips to the bathroom.
This past weekend I found a miracle for my hip/low back pain - support belt! I have "the ultimate" belt, which I got at a Motherhood Maternity outlet on clearance, it was a returned item and didn't have original packaging. I was able to be on my feet most of the weekend. Altho I was tuckered out by supper time, my back wasn't hurting even close as much as when I don't wear the belt. I also noticed I had barely any BH this weekend too, not sure if it was the belt, or the super delicious apple cider I was addicted to and drinking constantly
Good luck! Hope you find some answers on GD, and relief for your aches!
