Maryland Babies

Please help!!! Looking to take a trip here:)

Hello Baltimore bumpies,

I figured this would be the best board to ask about travel since you're bumpies from Baltimore. DH and I with our 14 month old (who will be just about 15 months when we go) are planning to go to Baltimore, hopefully for our anniversary. It would be the 7th, 8th, and 9th, or something like that. I looked up a few things to do, like the zoo, and the aquarium, and the B&O railroad museum. Is it true that they don't let you bring strollers into the aquarium? How big of an issue is it to bring a toddler there? Any other places you would recommend and/or places to eat. I read about a place called Miss Shirley's that's supposed to be amazing. How close is the Inner Harbor and what is there to do there? Any suggestions and/or feedback is greatly appreciated. TIA for your thoughts and comments. I am really looking to hopefully going.

  • There is also the science center and the Walters Art Gallery.  Never been to Miss Shirley's, but about two to three blocks east of the Inner Harbor is the Little Italy neighborhood - lots of wonderful Italian restaurants, Amicci's is our favorite!  Poeple also rave about Blue Moon Cafe's breakfast.  Fells Point and Canton areas have tons of shops to walk around.  I just suggest bringing jackets and sweatshirts - Baltimore can get chilly!

  • That is correct, they do not allow strollers in the Aquarium.  I have always avoided visiting on the weekends when it is most crowded.  Visiting on a weekday I never had a problem with my toddler there and she loves it.

  • Maybe you could do Port Discovery.  That's downtown at the harbor as well.  You could check online to get more info on admission.

  • Miss Shirley's is delicious!!! I have never been to their Inner Harbor location but its the same menu as their other location...the Funky Monkey Bread is to die for.(Okay, I may be biased as my DH works for them) Wink

Little Italy is great for dinner. Amici's is my favorite (get the Panne rotunda) then you can stroll over to Vacarro's for dessert. They have yummy Italian ice and cookies as well as other items.

  • I second Miss Shirley's! I am in love with them :) and I have no bias....just darn good food. It is good food, but can be a little $$ for breakfast. Totally worth it tho, and they have delicious lunch as well. Never done dinner there.  I would avoid the zoo.....dont know if you mentioned that. The aquarium is pretty good and the science center is nice. Other than that I would check a balt city event calender. There are festivals and events on most weekends that are free.

  • I will recommend going to Port Discovery until I am blue in the face, I love it there so much.

     Definitely go to Miss Shirley's!

  • I personally wouldn't go to the B&O RR museum b/c there isn't a lot for a LO at that age to do there.  The zoo, aquarium and science center are awesome!  (Pt. Discovery has a great kids room now, but I would recommend the science center over that as there are more things for you and your dh to do there too).

  • Thanks so much for your feedback. I will keep all this info for future use. We decided that we will probably end up going to Philly because the drive is about 2 and a half hours, whereas Baltimore is over 4 and a half (we live in NY). We may end up going in the summer on the way to visit my sister in Richmond, VA. Thanks again for all of your travel ideas and info. Baltimore is definitely a trip to be done in the near future. One more thing, is it best to take trains in the area or is driving not too much of a pain to find parking that's not too costly?
