NBR-- Damn dog

DH has this dog, she's just over a year. Our friends call her the "Golden Child", she can do no wrong. Well she and I don't get along,  she doesn't listen to me at all.  She will get into the trash when were not home, but when DH is around is a saint. Now, I have a lot of dog experience, but she is just damn defiant. And her latest trick, is knocking over our laundry an eating my panties, three pairs today while we were napping.  DH steps over the dirty clothes heap, and says "Well I guess you should watch where you put them." Um No, Gemma is going to be spending some time in her crate if she can't be trusted to be out. Grrr.

  • When you figure out how to stop a dog from being naughty when you aren't looking let me know!  We just got better about keeping our clothes out of his reach.  Stick out tongue

  • DH needs to help train her to listen to you!  If he doesn't recognize your authority, then neither will she.  I would also tell DH that he needs to work with you and the dog now.  With the baby on the way, there will just be more behavioral issues and you don't want her eating the baby clothes, diapers, pacifiers, etc.

As for the eating the panties (which totally sucks and DH should address the behavior), please keep an eye on her.  They could cause an intestinal blockage in her.  If you see any changes in her eating habits or mood or do not see them "pass through her system" then you will want to get her to a vet for a xray.  Dogs have needed surgery to remove less from their bellies.

  • let DH choose....you and the baby or the dog.

lol...I know it's not that easy. I am not a pet person at all and DH was a dog lover. I told him that I would NEVER have a dog and he either had to accept that or not marry me.

    Hey- worth a try ;)

  • My DH and I just got a puppy shes a little over 6 months and she ended rippin up part of our carpet while we were gone for a few hours. Now it could have been our other dog but doubt it. So, I know how you feel :)

  • This dog needs training and possibly more time from you guys.  A lot of dogs who get into things and cause trouble are doing so because they are bored and/or lonely.  I understand how annoying it can be but dogs aren't toys or dolls they need attention and care and discipline just like kids do.   From both of you. Good luck.

  • I agree with PPs, it sounds like this pup needs more attention and training. Except I don't think your DH will be able to train the dog to respect you - you need to train the dog to listen to you. It takes time, but it's definitely worth it.

Also thought I'd add that my pup is a little panty fiend, too. As a result, laundry always goes down the chute or in a secure hamper that he can't get into. It was an adjustment, but probably a good habit for me to learn. Our bedroom is much cleaner now without the laundry baskets aren't on the floor.

  • She needs to be crated when you guys are not home.  Also, how often does she get walked?  It may be that she is not getting enough exercise.

This, My dog got into my bathroom trash over the summer and needed a $2500 surgery to remove the contents that were stuck.

My little pumpkin was born at 34weeks, weighing 3lbs, due to severe IUGR & Unexplained Placental Insufficiency. He spent 49 days in the NICU. Lilypie Premature Baby tickers imageimageimageimageimageimage
