Pregnant after a Loss

Speaking of CPs: Did you get a flu shot?

I know there's been a lot of debate on flu shots and whether to get them or not, but I'm just curious as to how many of us actually have gotten/are getting them.  I recently read that it is estimated that more than 25% of women who are pregnant do not get the flu shot, and I am surprised, as based on the discussions I've seen on TB, I would think it would be more than that.[Poll]

Re: Speaking of CPs: Did you get a flu shot?

  • My husband had H1N1 the first year it was a big thing, right before the vaccine became available.  He recovered ok (despite coughing up blood intermittently) but then over a month later got pleurisy and ended up in hospital for 5 days.  It was very scary (for all of us) and very painful for him.  He was off work for 6 weeks.

Needless to say, we would like to avoid any of us, especially the newbie, getting it!

Me and my Kiwi, both 38.  We struggled with RPL and were blessed with Micah.  I'm a full custody stepmom to Ethan!

  • I was hesitant to get it before 2nd tri and my PCP said that if I got it last year than I should be fine till 2nd tri because its the same exact shot as last year and you should still have the antibodies. She also agrees not to get it, as she says the less we do in 1st tri the better.

  • I work with under privilege youth age 16-24 and although I am not in the classroom, I am still exposed to them daily it was in my best interest to get a flu shot.  I am not a sickly person but I wasn't taken chances.  Glad I did.  I have already had that dreaded Stomach virus, I dont want the flu too.

  • The one time a few  years ago I went to get it, I was allergic to something in it - so not sure if I will/can get it?   Will ask my OB next week.

  • My OB's office has the thimerisol free shots, so I got one at my last appointment.  And it's covered by insurance so we didn't have to pay for it either.

  • I just went with the flow honestly.  I know I work in a gym, and that there are a lot of germs even though we clean the equipment all the dang time.  My  SD is in first grade so she is one big germ ball herself.

It seemed to make sence to at least try to prevent it.  If I get it anyways so be it but at least I tried.

  • I spoke with my Dr about it, who will also be LO's pediatrician and she agreed that I should wait until after I deliver because of the complicated pregnancy and IUGR.  She made sure to emphasize that there's no evidence it would have any effect on baby but understood my concerns for the already underweight/stressed little guy.  I will likely deliver in another 2-3 weeks and will get one then.
