My LO has had continuous gas & tummy problems, while I know its normal for some, it seemed to be getting worse. This past Thursday night he & I were up all night, I mean even when he was "sleeping" he was whimpering & physically tyring to push out gas. I kept trying to figure out what else to do for him & was searching online for some answers. I found several posts about moms complaining that the Playtex Drop Ins were incorrect in their measurements.
I decided to see what mine came out to be. So I put a 8-10 oz expandable drop-in in a holder, filled it to 4oz per the bottle lines, and then poured it in a measuring cup marked in ounces. It fell almost a full ounce short. OMG! I was livid! I then measure the 4oz drop-in, in a 4 oz bottle and it was dead on. The expandable ones were wrong causing me and others mom's to feed their baby the wrong powder formula mix.
I then looked up the 1800 number for Playtex and got a customer rep. When I explained what I found, she proceeded to tell me I shouldn't use the bottle measurements but the markings on the liner. WHAT?? I have been using the 8oz drop-in liners for about a month and had never seen measurement lines. I pulled one out of the box and I could see a very faint 8 and 10 at the top but nothing I could have seen through a bottle. After about 5 minutes I could find the 2, 4 & 6 numbers lightly imprinted on the liner but no way could I have seen those numbers either. I then proceeded to explain to her how dangerous it is to mix formula wrong and that the old regular drop in liners were correct and if they didn't want us using the bottle numbers then they should removed them and print the drop in better to be seen.
She then offered to send me a prepaid label to ship back my bottles & liners. She almost choked when I told her I had 28 bottles between 4oz & 8oz. (Just wait until they get the box, I also had 14 boxes of liners, 50 & 100 ct. Gifts & an awesome CVS online sale) She also is sending me 4 boxes of the Vent Air bottle for me to use so I wouldn't have to change nipples. They will send me a check for the bottles & liners minus the 4 boxes of Vent Air after I ship them back.
Please, if anyone else is using these. Check your measurements. If you want to continue to use them pre-measure the water with a true liquid measuring cup. I didn't want to do this since part of the reason I wanted to use them was to be able to toss the liner for cleanup. Not to mention I can't ask daycare when he starts in 3 weeks to measure the water before they poor it in the bottle.
Re: Playtex Drop Ins --- anyone else notice they are wrong?

Call & complain. I don't know how many bottles you have but its a huge waste of money to not be able to use them. My LO eats 3-4 oz too but he also has to have 1 tsp of rice cereal per 2 oz for reflux, so by the time I add the powder formula & the rice it won't fit the 4oz bottles, that's why we had to switch up earlier. I used the old drop ins with my nephew when he was with me 8 years ago and those were correct. The lady I spoke to even admitted they were accurate to the bottle lines on the old bottles too.
I noticed this too- it's really annoying but Playtex nipples are the only ones that work for us now.
Now I always use an old avent bottle to correctly measure the water before pouring it in the playtex liner. Once I shake up the forrrmula that 6 oz bottle looks like 8-9 oz from the outside of the bottle.
The Drop In nipples fit & work with the VentAire bottles. The lady I spoke to even suggested switching to those so we wouldn't have to change nipples. So you can switch if you want to or just continue what you do. I also didn't realize until PP pointed it out the 4oz bottle are off for anything less than 4 oz. This makes me wonder if the vomiting was formula thickness related instead of reflux. I know he has a slight case of AR because we can see him chew & make faces at times, but no where near what my nephew has. We used the playtex drop ins from the beginning. The 2oz bottles for 2 oz of formula until we had to move to 4oz & the 8oz bottle.

The change has been amazing! We were staying up for hours night after night, I could get him down & in an hour or two his was back up crying, grunting & attempting to push gas out. Now he has gas, but it moves like normal. I haven't given any gripe water since this past Saturday morning. I still put a dose of gas drops in the bottle but that's mainly to kill the air bubbles from mixing the powder formula. I am amazed!
