Not keeping vitamin down

I found out Monday 10/24/11 that I was pregnant and started taking my prescription prenatal vitamins Wednesday night. I've thrown it up every night except Thursday night. I don't lie down for at least 15 minutes after taking it and I avoid dairy three hours prior. Can I try to take another one if I throw it up? Because if it's not staying down, it's not benefiting us.

Re: Not keeping vitamin down

  • Talk to your doctor about a chewable.  Are you taking it with food?  My PNV says to take with WITH milk or food.

  • If it is really bad get a kids chewable and a folic acid supplement until you can see your doctor again..
  • Mine says "do not take with milk" & my doctor said it's because dairy blocks the absorption of vitamins/minerals. I took it with food last night but I guess that didn't help. I'll ask about a chewable. Thanks!!
  • I had the same issue last time and this time as well. Buy a Flintstones chewable and a colic acid supplement and take them at opposite times of day. I never could keep my chewable down but I always was able to.keep the colic acid.down just fine. It's like a little bit of added insurance.

  • I had my first appt at 8 weeks and when I told my doctor that the prenatals made me queasy, he said it was normal and to hold off on them a few weeks and try again. I didn't know if that was a normal response from a doctor so I asked around and a few of my friends had the same problem and same feedback from their OB. If you're not comfortable with cutting out all vitamin consumption, I would recommend taking the Flinstones gummies supplement until you can take prenatals again. GL!
  • My doc said to take two Flintstones until I can stomach the prenatal ones.  Unless something pops up in the blood work that you really need more of, these should be fine for now.  Feel better!

  • They sell chewable prenatal vitamins at Walmart (and I'm sure other stores carry them too). They're sugar coated, too!

  • You are definitely a good candidate for a chewable vitamin. See what your doc/ob recommends. Good luck!

  • My prenatals used to make me throw up, so I now eat my breakfast wait alittle while and then I take mine, and it hass stopped the throwing up. I know a few girls on here were also getting sick, so they started taking theirs at night.

  • I take mine immediately before I go to sleep.  If I stay awake to long I get nauseous.  Best to sleep through it.
