Sizing for Janie and Jack and PIP

My dad just agreed to finance Kate's Christmas dress.  :)  :)  :)

So I found one I love on the Janie and Jack website, but I'm not sure what size to order.  Kate currently wears a 3 in Gymboree, but I'm buying her new stuff in a 4 because the 3s are getting a bit short.  (side note: How is my child a giant?)  How does Janie and Jack sizing compare to Gymboree?  They're the same company, right?  So should I order a 4?

Anywhere else I should look?  It has to be under $200 for everything and it needs to not look too Christmasy since she'll probably be wearing it to my step-sister's after-the-elopement wedding reception in January.

Re: Sizing for Janie and Jack and PIP

  • Emily has 2 J&J shirts and I'd say I feel they run small. She's gigantor too as you know though so I don't know how much that has to do with it =) Plus, they were from a resale shop so "preshrunk" vs a brand new dress which won't get washed too many times. Overall, I've been a little disappointed when I order up on dresses because then they fit poorly. A little snug seems to look better in pictures.

I wouldn't worry about it being too short. That's what bloomers and tights are for!Keep in mind, Abby can still almost wear 4 stuff. She's a different build than Kate and Emily for sure but 4 is really quite big. Not just "longer" like 2T vs 3T

The color reminded me of this gown I saw on the JCPenney site . They actually have TONS of good dresses for cheap really. And many of them are flexible holiday/dressy dress styling. Damn you for making me look for holiday dresses already!!

  • I haven't bought all that much from J&J, and nothing in girls, but it's been pretty spot on for me.  If I were to get something for DS for Christmas I would get a 3.  If you want her to be able to wear it for a while then the 4 might be better.  Can you take her to try it on in the store first?
  • Yes, theier sizes do run a bit small in my experience. Especially tops and bottoms, but I've never had an issue with the dresses.  DD wears a 2T (at 20 mos and really tall for her age) and I bought her a J&J dress two weeks ago and it fits perfectly, so you may not have an issue with her Christmas dress.  I would go and try one on at the store, though just to be sure. If they don't have the one your'e looking for in particular, you can always order it online.   I just got a few coupons in the mail if you want them, just email me (LIS).

ETA:  I agree with Taytee on JCP, you may find some pretty dresses there, (not to mention all the accessories) for way less than $200.   That navy dress on the site is gorgeous!
