South Jersey Babies

Need help choosing a hospital!

Hi! I'm new to these boards but I have to make a really important decision and I need help! I'm 10 weeks along and my infertility doc will be releasing me to my OB/GYN in 2 weeks. Problem is, I need to choose a hospital before I choose an OB. I live in the Millville/Vineland area but I do NOT want to have my baby at South Jersey Healthcare (Vineland or Elmer). So I'm looking at Virtua-Vorhees, Kennedy, and AtlanticCare based on hospital ratings that I've found. But there is nothing like personal experiences. I've read a few postings on Virtua-Vorhees (good experiences except for LC). Any opinions/experiences with these hospitals is very much appreciated!

Thanks!!! :)

  • I delivered at Kennedy in Washington Township.  I had a great experience there.  The nurses and LCs were are amazing.

I go to University Doctors in sewell.  They have both OBs and Midwives.  I can't say enough great things about going there.  I always received the best care, was never rushed, and they were mostly on time.

  • Wouldn't voorhees be quite a hike?? I loved that I lived so close to Kennedy- if h needed to run home for something he was there & back in no time. I delivered all 3 girls there & had great experiences every time, but you can't go wrong with Virtua. It's brad new and anyone I talked to who delivered there has loved it.
  • In my opinion the OB is more important than the hospital you're going to deliver at except in the situation of an expected high risk delivery or problem with the baby that you know about before the delivery.  You spend 9 months seeing your OB, you spend 2-4 days in the hospital.

I was pleased (for the most part) with my delivery at Virtua Voorhees and plan on delivering there again but if my OB switched hospitals that they delivered at I would stick with them.

  • I have delivered both of my LOs at AtlantiCare and will again with #3. Great hospital! Staff is amazing and so helpful. With my 1st she was in the NICU for about a week which is right there at the hospital. The NICU staff is amazing too! I don't know about the other hospitals but at AtlanticCare the Maternity Wing is at the opposite end of the hospital. It has its own entrance and check-in desk. So there is no need to walk all the way through the hospital. Good Luck with your choice.
