Can someone provide me with some recommendations for day care in the North Potomac/Gaithersburg (preferably close to Kentlands) area? I have no idea where to start.
Thanks

Many ladies on the board don't post details about their childcare situations (you can never be too safe) but in Montgomery County (MoCo) the best ways to search for childcare are to use the LOCATE service provided by the county, or if you're interested in in-home providers, Monday Morning Moms. If you're looking for reviews of individual places, check out the forums at DC Urban Moms.
At centers, you'll be put on a waiting list and told to call back once you've had the baby. For in-home providers, you can interview some but since they only know availability a month or two in advance, you'll also be told to call back once you've had the baby. Some places will hold your spot for a deposit - for me, I didn't want to do that, and I'm glad I didn't because my feelings about where I wanted to leave DS changed once I got to know him!
Good luck! You will find good childcare, it's just a matter of time.
Ditto PP. We don't live in that area anymore but when we did we looked at Childtime and really liked it. It's just off Quince Orchard road so not far from the Kentlands at all. FWIW, I did not like the KinderCare that was in that same area. We also looked at the Franklin Schools I think, near King Farm, and liked that they offered PT options that ChildTime did not. They would have been our 2nd choice (and they only charge $25 to go on the waitlist), vs the $100-$150 most places charge.
When we moved we actually ended up going with an in-home and I'm really glad we did. There were benefits I wasn't thinking about when he was small that I'm glad he will have as he gets older. Particularly the interaction with the older kids - I think that really helps with his development and he LOVES watching them play. I think it will also help him be more ready for a baby if/when we decide to go for #2, since he'll have been around babies at daycare and at least understand that they make noise and are needy so that isn't such an adjustment. Also, our in-home has 2 assistants so the kid/teacher ratio is often 3:1 even for the older kids, which is not the case at centers. Just some things I never considered before he was born.
The Goddard on wind river lane across from kentlands medimmune-phenomenal but also one of the most expensive-1935/mth until age 2, then 16somethung from 2-3, and 3-4 is 13something, I think. Blew all the other centers away, IMO
