Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Toy sanitizing

My DD is starting to get to the point where everything goes straight to her mouth once she gets her chubby little hands to hold it.  Just in time for cold and flu season, yay!  What ratio of bleach to water do you use when sanitizing toys?  I want it to be effective but also to be safe for her!

Re: Toy sanitizing

  • We don't use bleach. We just use Babyganics all purpose cleaner and rinse with water or we use the Earth's Best nursery wipes and rinse with water.

No other babies play with DS's toys though so I'm not really worried about flu germs on them.

  • Yeah honestly I would just use regular dish washing soap and hot water. The key isn't what you wash with so much as how often. You can wash it in a bleach water combo but if you only wash it once a month, it's not going to be as effective as washing it once a week with regular dish soap.

  • i second the dish soap and hot water once a week.  this is what we do for the hard toys.  soft toys go in a pillow case washed with all free and clear detergent and hot water...once a week as well.

  • Yup, I just use hot water and dishsoap (I think I have blue Dawn right now). It works for me.

  • The ratio that we use in my work to kill bacteria and bloodborne pathogens is 1 part bleach to 9 parts water.

  • I agree with the dish soap, but I worked at a daycare before DS wad born and the bleach water ratio was 1:10
