  • Oh no! Can you call another office?

  • Do you live near a dental school? If so, call them and see if they have emergency services for the weekend.

If not, start calling every dentist in the phone book. Somebody has to be open on the weekend, even if only for emergency services.

  • Or in an emergency you can go to er because all they are gonna do is give you antibiotic for now. if its abscessed and needs to be pulled youll have to wait til after baby anyway. Good luck ive had soooo many tooth problems its the worst esp when preg and you cant take anything and your already soooo uncomfortable.

  • Orajel or any topical numbing paste you can find it in your local market in tooth brush/paste isle...is your abcess draining? If not, and you can see a "bubble" on your gum your can try and scratch it or pierce it with a needle (make sure it is sterile and hands/nails are clean) to try and help it to drain. That should help with the pain/pressure. Tylenol...Also, call around and try and find another dentist if  you want. I worked prior to staying at home with this pregnancy as a dental/oral surgical asst. Good luck, hope you feel better

  • Forgot to add, depending on how bad abscess is they can likely save the tooth with a root canal...but need to see x-ray for that and might want to wait until after baby for that. A good course of antibiotics will help a ton with pain to get you through for the next week or two.... hopefully it doesn't have to be pulled...if it does I highly recommend an implant...it is amazing what they can do now and they last a very long time and look real!

  • Call around to find a dentist with emergency weekend hours or go to the ER - especially if it is abscessed! Ouch!

There ARE things they can do for you while you are pregnant. It is more limited, but there are antibiotics and anesthetics that your OB will approve. I had to have a root canal early in my 3rd Tri and they were even able to do a digital xray (they just had to double cover the belly).

Don't live in the pain and definitely don't put off having someone look at the abscess. An antibiotic will be MUCH better for the baby than if the infection enters your blood stream. Not mention your overall comfort.

  • I had a similar issue during my first tri. It was the weekend and I found an emergency dental office open on Saturdays. They were able to get me in within a couple hours, did an x-ray with double vests (front and back) used the normal shots for numbing and fixed me all up. Try to get in right away, the infection is bad for you and baby. You don't want it to cause a fever or any unneeded pain. GL!

  • if you get desperate .. get some fresh garlic and some bread and chop it up together.. chew on that for a while. when crushed garlic releases two chemicals that when combined create a natural antibiotic.  The bread takes away some of the burn of raw garlic.  They sell tablets at the pharmacy but I find the real deal much more effective and it sure helps kill off infection/toothache quick.  That might help see you through till you get to a dentist.

I havent had to use it while pregnant so a quick bit of research might be in order to make sure raw garlic is ok.

  • Try to go to an emergency clinic.  You can certainly get dental work done while pg.  I've had root canals, xrays and fillings done while in the 1st and 2nd tri.  For 3rd tri, they'll just have to be more mindful of the positions they put you in.  GL
