How long did you run when pregnant?

Since I had my son a year ago, I took up running and now I am slightly addicted, it helped me lose all of the 60 lbs I gained being preg with him, and more. I push him in the BOB anywhere from 3-5 miles every day... now I am pregnant with #2 (8 weeks) and was wondering how long other preggo's kept up their running? Right now I plan on running until either the weather stops me or the size of my growing belly stops me... I have an ultrasound tomm so I am going to ask my doc again, but was just wondering what other momma's experiences were...! Cool

Re: How long did you run when pregnant?

  • I ran 3 miles in about 35 mins yesterday at 40 weeks. For a normal pregnancy, there's no reason to stop running.

  • I ran throughout my pregnancy with DD including the night that my water broke. I really did not notice a significant change in my running until closer to 20 weeks when I had to drop my distance and change my pace. Talk to your doc.

  • I stopped running at 35 weeks because my hip flexors started to ache and I was afraid of falling.  I continued doing 1.5 hours of cardio at the gym until the day I delivered at 39w4d.  I gained 18lbs and at 7 weeks postpartum I only have 4lbs to lose.  I had a super smooth pregnancy, labor, and delivery.  Keep it up!

  • I'm 38 weeks and still running. Granted, I'm not as fast as I used to be and I'm only running up to 3 or 4 miles at most but I'm still running!

    Love hearing this.

I love to run.  I don't run as much as I did over the summer, but nonetheless, running is a passion of mine as well.

Unfortunately, my Dr. told me to keep my HR at 140, which means no running for me.  I told him that is going to be really hard to do.  He has put me on brisk walking instead. I think it's just an old-fashioned way of doing things.

  • I was able to run until about 32 weeks pregnant.

  • I ran until 38 weeks.  I would have gone further, but it was starting to get really uncomfortable.  I maintained a swimming and indoor biking routine up until the day before my induction (no pitocin, just cervadil).  I had an easy, unmedicated (aside from the cervadil to get things going) labor and birth.  DS was born at 8lbs8oz.

  • i'm still running (i did 2 miles this AM, 32w2d). my max is 3 miles, my runs depend on how early i drag my butt out of bed.

  • I'm still "running" but it is definitely slower than it used to be! I have had a hard time keeping my heart rate down, so I have progressively gotten a bit more and more out of running shape. However, I try to run/walk at least 3-4 mi a couple of times a week, with yoga and elliptical training the other days.

  • I am also pregnant with #2 :) With DS i ran until 20 weeks, and then I just felt awkward/front heavy! Then I started walking and doing Exercise DVDs...not 'pregnancy dvds', just regular workouts. If they felt too intense I would just modify. It really helped me stay in great shape:only gained 24 lbs and was almost back to my pre-pregnancy weight in a couple months. Good for you-keep it up!
