February 2012 Moms

Who wants to talk down my mother?

You have to love my mom, you do, but sometimes...I guess we will just call her a "worry-wart".  She has always been a little goofy about being "careful" but wow did that magnify with me being pregnant.

First - she was scared of me walking my own dog (she's a St. Bernard).

Then - she was worried about me taking the dog outside once it got cold and icy.

So....they built us a big old fenced in area in our back yard so Molly can go outside on her own and can romp and run.

Then....she worries about the dog on the stairs going to her playpen, as I call it, and so I have to buy traction tape stuff for the dog to be safe.

Then...she knows we are having new floors put in soon and knows we have a lot of stuff to move.  Now, I am not planning on lifting anything heavy that would cause strain or carrying anything down the stairs that would be in any way awkward or difficult so I don't trip and fall.  I don't know how many times she has called to ask me who is going to help us move this stuff and makes me PROMISE I won't lift anything.

The list really goes on and on.  I have survived on this earth for 34 years, a good 16 years of them outside of her house and supervision.  I am a smart person.  I will not unnecessarily endanger my unborn child.  I know she is just worrying because she cares, but take a chill pill, mom.  Smile

  • yeah, good luck with that. I have my own mother to deal with.

She wants me to call someone every time I leave my house and come back because if something were to happen, who would know about it? So, I need an accountability partner. Bless her heart.

Hmm...you might win with that one!  If she gives you a new watch to wear or something, check it for a GPS tracker.  Wink

  • Awwww I think its adorable but i could see how that would get annoying
  • My mom is the opposite.  She means well, but she has a bad hip and will ask me to carry things for her. Things I shouldn't be lifting either, up 3 flights of stairs.

  • My mom is like that, too. It really gets under my skin for some reason, I know I shouldn't let it bug me, but it does.

We had a huge disagreement a while ago about crossing the street. I say you step off the curb and make the cars stop for you when you want to cross. (It's the law that they must stop.) She says you wait til there's no traffic. Confused Sorry, I'm not waiting all damn day to cross the street.

When we are driving in the car together and she has to stop suddenly, she still puts her arm out in front of me as if to keep me from falling forward. She's done this since I was little and it cracks me up.

Ha!  YES!  Mine, too.  What kind of super-power mom strength do they think they have it that arm anyway?!!?
