This is a mini-vent: For as long as I can remember, my neighborhood has always done trick or treating the saturday right before/after Halloween night. This year they are doing it the night of the 31st. Wtf?! Do they not realize people have school or work or whatever during the week! And further more, why must they change it now?!
When is your neighborhood doing theirs?
Re: When is trick or treating in your neighborhood?
Trick or Treating in my neighborhood is always the 31st. It starts around 4 or 5 and goes untill 8 or 9. Usually if we turn off our lights kids will stop coming by...for the most part.
Hahah , so it may be that my neighborhood was wierd and just now got on board with the surrounding neighborhoods.
Nah, my neighbor asked me when we were trick or treating since she suggested going on Saturday. I told her we're all going Monday. I gotta drag my butt out of bed at 0430 the next morning. Damn calendars.
My town is doing 6-8pm on the 31st. Personally, I think it's dumb when towns schedule TorT on a day that isn't Halloween, just for convenience. Fake holidays are fake! lol
The 8pm end time does interfere with LO's bedtime (she wouldn't sleep through our dog's incessant barking every time the doorbell rings, so we'll just keep her up till it's over), but it's not like it makes a long night before work/school.
The kids in our neighborhood apparently aren't taught the porch light rule. It drives me crazy.
Always on the 31st.
I had to laugh because there's a proposition for the whole state to celebrate Halloween/TOTing on the last Saturday of the month. Tomorrow they're predicting a Nor'Easter with 5-10 inches of snow for a good part of the state...would have sucked to have Halloween canceled on account of snow!
ETA: We always went ToTing after it was dark around 5:30-6:00. We'd stay out maybe until 7:30-8. Homework was done before we went out (though teachers usually went easy on us). It pretty much died down by 8:00. We might have gotten a couple stragglers (older kids) after that but by 9:00 our porch light was off and we were done.
The 31st from 6-8 I think. Either way we're turning our porch light off and going trick or treating with Ronan ourselves. This year I'm claiming his loot as my birthday present since my birthday's on the 1st.
ETA: In the area surrounding my dinky town, there's also a crap ton of "trick or treat trails" before halloween that businesses participate in. People take Halloween serious up in this place. Unfortunately I live smack dab in the middle of the notoriously most nomlicious trick or treating neighborhood of the town, so if we were handing out candy like I did last year, I'd have to get 4 or 5 big bags to accommodate the huge crowds. Last year we got wiped out within half an hour because of the sheer number of people, the second group that came to our house was 31 people!
