I was looking at the post about being catheterized and it made me wonder what are the strange things you ladies are scared about during labor. Obviously, I'm nervous to push out a baby... but I'm also super scared of getting hemorrhoids. =(
The biggest fear I have is that my water will break somewhere really inconvenient like at work or in the grocery store.
Water breaking in the grocery store reminded me of this. Awhile back someone here posted about a woman she knows who thought her water broke in a pet store. She actually just peed herself though. HA!
I am not looking forward to the a$$ issues as well
I am getting an epi as soon as I can and figure if my body needs to tear it will tear... I just do NOT want an episiotomy no matter what. I assume I will have stitches - it is pretty common.
Other than that my only fear is needing a C-section. I do not want this unless it is life or death for one of us.
LOL about the lady in the pet store!!!! I am having a scheduled section, so all of my fears have kinda been relieved At least the natural child birth fears.

Now, a PSA about the roids...you are more than likely going to get those before you deliver. Mine appeared about 25 weeks I think last time. It's just one of those pregnant things.
The biggest fear I have is that my water will break somewhere really inconvenient like at work or in the grocery store.
This! I just had a conversation with my coworker yesterday to tell her that I plan to work up until my EDD and possibly past it, and that she is my go-to person if my water breaks here!
Welcome to the world, Baby W: born on 3/8/12 @ 3:49pm - 8lb 11 oz, 22 in.

I used to work at a Subway inside a hospital. One day, a woman came in right after her appointment. Her water broke in the middle of her order. At least she was where she needed to be! She was so embarrassed, but it wasn't a big deal. She just tied a sweater around her waist and sat down until someone came with a wheelchair. She still ate her sandwich (which we gave her for free)!

Pooping!! I even read a post (forget where) where the woman said she knew she pooped because she could smell it!! Agh! I know that's petty but still! I'm also nervous that I will progress too fast and there wont be time for an epi. or I'm afraid it wont work right. =/

After I had DS I ended up with a spinal headache. I had excruciating, blinding pain in my head and neck for three days because the epi site didn't close. I was leaking CSF and needed two blood patches to fix it (the first one failed as soon as I got in the car to go home). The procedure consists of pulling blood from your arm, and inserting it into the epi site. The pressure and pain was pretty damn intense.
Last night I was reading the chapter in a pregnancy book that talks about what happens after you have the baby, and honestly, I think I'm more scared of what seems like weeks of pain and soreness afterward than what will occur in the delivery room.
I'm also with PP on my water breaking somewhere inconvenient/embarrassing. I work an hour and a half away and if I'm early, I would probably have to go to a hospital up there.
I'm just nervous about the actual epidural insertion. I don't like needles in the first place and it just sort of skeeves me out. Everything else - meh, I can deal with it.

Me too! I am planning not to have one, but we'll see. It freaks me out more than any pain could. They would have to give me anxiety meds...
Also...I am scared of getting a c-section, I do not want this at all and the whole "pooping" issue. Someone told me to give yourself an enema at the hospital when you get there and only have clear stuff during labor so it won't happen...we'll see!

I hate to admit this... all of it. Even surprising to myself, I am so freaked out about delivering.... either vaginally or C-section. I keep hanging on to this ridiculously made up hope that there's a third option to deliver. I'm a nurse, I've watched vaginal births and C-sections, I should know what to expect at some level, but the thought terrifies me. I definitely do not want an episiotomy, I don't want DH to see my vag all stretched out and bleeding. I am so excited about the end result, but getting there is not going to be fun.
Me (33). DH (37). DD (2.2012). MCs x4. After 4 years & 7 months, due 4.2018!
I have actually been through most of the fears listed (ie pooping, tearing, stiches, pitocin) So the only thing that worries me is a c-section. At this point I think I will welcome an epidural. I have avoided them thus far, but if I get induced again this go round I refused to endure the pain I did with DD#2.
Ironically all the fears I've been through were with her LOL. She was my special baby that came 2 wks early. Water broke while at the park with DD#1 (I had a pad on and it didn't fully pop but a nice leak) no contractions so i had to be induced with pitocin. I tried to convince the nurse I needed to use the bathroom, but she tried to tell me I was just feeling the pressure of the baby so I proved her wrong. And then DD decided to follow the last pocket of water that the doc had to break out and I was only 9 cm dialated so I had a 2nd degree tear with stiches. I felt nothing of but her head when it was crowning. I have like a sensor for the head because I felt DD#1 before I was checked too.

What am I *not* scared of? I've been terrified of giving birth since I was little, when my mom told about how horrible her labor was. (She's great, but she was certainly honest.) I was so terrified that I swore up and down for the longest time that I never wanted kids. I changed my mind about five years ago.
With the above being true, I'm definitely getting an epidural, and I'm less worried now, having heard birth stories from many people who had one and told me I can chill a little. Then I talked to one of my coworkers, and she said a total noob gave her the epidural and he injected it too far up her spine or something, and she went numb up to her throat. She couldn't speak coherently for the rest of her labor and was in terror the whole time because she couldn't feel herself breathing. So that pretty much shot up to my greatest fear.
That, and the pooping. Because, ugh.

Pretty much everything... water breaking somewhere inconvenient, labor happening too fast and not being at the hospital, tearing, pooping, having to be induced, needing to get an epi, feeling "rushed" or pressured into any kind of intervention, something being wrong, or having to have a c-section...
I want to try and go as natural as possible.

Honestly, absolutely nothing. I mean, I have some plans, such as being in a hospital so that I can (hopefully) have an epidural, but other than that, there is very little you can control about what is going to happen to you so there is really no use in worrying. I'm going to have contractions, the baby is going to come out somehow, both of us are going to have the best medical care I can try to arrange, and that's about it. I'm sure when the day comes stuff is going to happen that I am not going to like and I'm sure I am going to freak out because I am a wimp (tearing, needles, bad epidural, c-section, whatever) but I am leaving that till that day and not worrying about it beforehand. I mean, it's one day in your life.
I am scared that people won't leave me alone and I will have to get rude. I can usually handle most anything with enough privacy. I am scared that people will come to the hospital and not leave or keep trying to come over my house right after I bring the baby home.
Everything else...I have no control over.

About the water breaking in public (specifically at school)--I had a friend who worked right up until she had her baby. She kept a water bottle at her desk so that if her water broke, she could "accidentally" spill it on herself so she wouldn't have to explain to the kids what was happening. It's actually pretty uncommon for it to break before labor...but it still worried me, too!
Definitely tearing, pooping, and my water breaking at school. I have a 40 minute drive to school, and although I know that labor can take hours, I really would like to be closer to home/the hospital when it happens!

Pooping (but this is only a minor concern because I've heard if you do the enema it's not an issue, so that's my plan)
Something going wrong with the epi - either it not working, or having horrible side effects that we've all heard horror stories about.
So, pretty much everything except for the fact that it ends with a baby lol! Trying to keep the end result and the fact that it's only one day in mind.. and trying not to think about it too much!
We go together like a wink and a smile. June 27, 2009

I've pretty much gone through everything most of you are scared of. I pooped, had an episiotomy, got the most horrible hemroids, puked, epi didn't work completely, and had to have the vacuum. So none of that stuff scares me this time. Honestly the pooping wasn't as big of a deal as I thought it would be.
My water broke last time, but luckily I was in my bathroom. I biggest fear is that is will break while I'm in bed and ruin my good mattress (we have a temperpedic). My other fear is a c-section. I am already stretched out down there and so I do not want a c-section. I am also hoping for an easier delivery, last time I pushed for 3 1/2 hrs. So I worry that I will have to do that again.

Tearing. Just the thought of that makes me want to wiggle my nose and have the baby magically appear on the outside.

Hmmm....lots of things! But the top 3 are:
1. Tearing
2. Hemorrhoids
3. Pooping

Back Labor
Epidural not working
The vacuum
Tearing and stitches going in...and feeling it all.
Post labor - Feeling like I've been hit by a truck and kicked in the crotch with a steel toe boot.
...pretty much the same birth I had last time.
Do they go away?

My water breaking in front of the kids at school.....
In the delivery room I'm afraid of throwing up all over, pooping, and tearing..... ahh....I think I'm worreid about the whole thing! ;-)
Having a c-section. I really really don't want one.

1) Having a c-section
2) Tearing/episiotomy
3) All of the physical/emotional recovery after labor and delivery... it sounds so rough.
1. Water breaking at school. I would be horrified.
2. Pitocin.
3. Tearing.
4. Not being able to get a shower/bath right away.
5. Annoying MIL trying to bust her way in to look at my vag pushing out her grandson.
