Saw the worst name...EVER.

Came across it because a friend of mine brought it to my attention...

La-Uh

Pronunciation, you ask...Luh-dash-uh. Really, the pronounced the dash. What's the weirdest name you've come across?

I am not trying to be snarky or a meanie, but this is not funny or real and is brought up every other day on this board.

La-a is waaaaay too popular. It must be, right? It comes up on here more than Aidan, Jacob, Isabella and Sophia combined. Not surprising that someone decided to make it a little more special.

  • I love, love, love this name! I prefer the traditional spelling of La-a though. La-a Pear (thanks for the inspiration on the mn ladies!) is lovely IMO. It's in my Top 5. Wink

La-a is so popular that it has made up spellings now? It has really hit the big time. It has to be in the top 100 list from SSA, right? I am surprised I don't know one.

It's not JUST a harmless urban legend, though. There are economic and racial stereotypes abounding in the "full" version of the story.

Wow! Im the one who originally posted La-a on the message boards because I met someone who was telling me the parent was very mad at her pronouncing her daughters name wrong and she said cant you read?! Its La-a (La dash uh)! I havent been on this site in a few months and wow! Its the talk of the town!!! haha. But seriously, whats with all the talk about it being "racist?" Im the original poster and race had nothing to do with this post...did someone else mention race? I just wanted to clear that up with everyone, that it is a true story, not made up, and that race has nothing to do with it!

Nope, sorry. It's made up. Unless you can produce solid evidence of little La-a, you've fallen for the urban legend yourself.

Yeah, apparently a woman here sued the school board because all the teachers were pronouncing her La-a's name wrong. She won too. A girl I work with argued with me about it being an urban legend. I call her La-a sometimes.
