Eating more often at daycare

At home LO nurses pretty consistently on a 3hr schedule and will throw a 4hr in most days, but at DC she's eating every 2.5. I've been sending 4-4.5 sometimes 5oz bottles and she always finishes them. Could she be looking for 5 to 6 oz per feeding? She nurses at least 3 and usually 4 times at home, and usually has 4 bottles at DC, so that seems like a lot of milk if they usually max out at 25-30. Any other suggestions?

Re: Eating more often at daycare

  • I recently bought some Medela Calma Nipples to slow her down...I send 4 - 6 ounce bottles for a 8 hr day and she munches right through them - to the point DCP asked to send more if I had it...The Calma Nipple is super slow flow -but only to be had from Europe...it's worked though - she is getting her sucking needs met and feeds...however - I did notice that she is waking more often to eat at night now that her daytime intake is coming down...

Does your LO give you good stretches at night or does she still eat every 3 hrs at night too?

  • Instead of more per bottle, could you do more bottles, more often? Like 3 ounces every 2 hours? Does daycare stop and burp/rest frequently? Do you give dd a paci?

That is what's happening- more bottles more often at daycare than she would normally nurse at home. It makes me think she's not actually full when it's gone, but has had enough to not be hungry for a while. It's fine since she'll fuss when she's hungry again, I just don't want to go back to nursing every 2.5 hours because the 3-4hr schedule she's been nursing on is nice.
