  • Depends.  Do you have anxiety?  Then you're probably on BOTB.

You know, Hippo, those that jumped on Sookie about her post clearly misunderstood, and the reason many did was in defense of those that have confessed they have anxiety issues. They apologized for the misunderstanding. Their intentions were in the right place. You don't have to be such a b!tch.

I wasn't going to get involved in this, because let's face it, it's the interwebs and sometimes it's just not worth it.  But I changed my mind, and I am going to make this one post about it.  Take it for what it is, and if anybody here feels the need to make fun of me for it, then I guess it is what it is.  Call me oversensitive, or uptight, or whatever, it doesn't matter.  And yes, it's going to be long, because I'm wordy.  Read it or don't.

I would think that out of everybody on this board, you Hippo would be one of the people to understand why it's such a touchy subject.  For everybody making fun of those that got defensive of the OP (which was NOT clearly a joke at first like those of you who e-know Sookie from other boards seem to think), I think it's great that you've either never experienced anxiety problems, or that you're at a place with yours where you can joke about it.  I really do.

Unfortunately it's not that simple for everybody.  The post could have easily been taken as another Sugarfingers post all over again, and unfortunately it was taken that way by a few people.  It could have just ended as an "I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, I didn't mean it that way, the end," but it didn't.  Instead, it had to be taken to the level of now making fun of the people who felt defensive about it, and Hippo, as someone who has dealt with your own anxiety issues, I would think you could possibly step back for a second and understand that, instead of joining in on the bandwagon and picking at the people whose feelings were initially hurt.

I'm not asking for us all to just get along.  I'm not expecting a drama-free board (ha, that would be a laugh).  I've been around for years, I know what the atmosphere is like here, and I'm not asking that to change.  But a little more sensitivity on subjects like this isn't too much to ask.  I didn't even have a problem with the "it's just a joke, chillax" posts, because yes there was overreaction on the defensive side as well.  You want to make Sugarfinger jokes?  Fine, go for it.  But to poke fun at people who might be in a bad place with their issues, when they didn't even realize it was a poorly worded joke to begin with, is just mean spirited.  It's not snarky fun, it's not "oh haha look at these people who can't handle a joke," it's just mean at this point.

Let the flaming and "snarking" commence.

  • Leslie, you said exactly what I am feeling, only in a much more mature way.

(Leslie, I took your comment out so it doesn't make a big long ribbon)
For me, the joke wasn't about anxiety at all.  It was about the drama that came from that post a few weeks ago.  Old drama gets brought up all the time, and since that drama had something to do with me (and pissed me off royally), I brought it up yet again.  I don't think anxiety is funny.  I do like to hold grudges, however, and that's why I said what I did.  I would like to see exactly where I poked fun at someone who might be in a bad place with their issues.

I know that the people who freaked out about it were upset maybe even a little on my behalf, or at least on behalf of some of the other ladies who have anxiety (if they don't themselves) and I appreciate that.

This is a post and run, but I hear what you're saying and as usual you make perfect sense.  I apologize to anyone who thought I was laughing at them.

ETA: as for me being a biitch - whatevs.

  • Hippo - This entire thread is making fun of the responses to the original comments.  If your response in this thread isn't making fun of the people who got defensive, that's very very unclear.

Sookie - I get that you weren't making fun of people with anxiety, but of the drama from a few weeks ago.  That just really wasn't clear in your original post, which is why people responded the way they did.  I see both sides, and there was overreaction on both sides.  My only real issue is with this thread, and the responses on the other post where people were poking fun at those who had the reactions they did.  It was a misunderstanding over a very sensitive subject that went really really wrong, but it didn't have to go to the level that other posters took it to.

  • The point was that to you the joke wasn't about anxiety, but to others who weren't familiar with Sookie and couldn't tell it was a joke, they thought it was. Poking fun at those that misunderstood her and were trying to take up for those of you that have shard your stories, was pretty crappy. As for poking fun at others with anxiety, Leslie's point was that those that overreacted to Sookie's joke could be overly sensitive b/c they are dealing with it themselves.

As for calling you a b!tch, I'm sorry. That was an overreaction.
