Do ya'll like our Name choices??

I know a few people are posting about this today and I wanted to see what you ladies thought about our tentative name choices...I am big on name meanings too, so I included that information as well:

Boy: Liam Tristan - Hubby's middle name is Tristan and I love Liam and it means "strong willed warrior"

Girl: Ramiyah - Miah for short (pronounced - Mya) (not sure about middle name yet) - Ramiyah means "God is exalted".

I have a lot of friends that hate Ramiyah, but I love it and DH and I always have. He actually came up with it when we were still dating years ago.

So, be honest ladies...what do you think of the two?

Jess

Re: Do ya'll like our Name choices??

  • I really like the name Liam, and I have no issues with the name Tristan, but I just don't like the lack of flow they have together.

Assuming Ramiyah is pronounced rah-my-uh I'd say it's not horrible. I think it could grow on me the more I say it. Also be sure to pair it with a little more subtle middle name, if that makes sense.

But over all, not horrible names.

  • I love Liam Tristan!  It's adorable and meaningful.

I'm not a fan of Ramiyah--it sounds made-up (and since I didn't find it on nameberry.com or babynames.com, I think it is).  I'm not a fan of made-up names or names that require an out-loud spelling lesson. Apparently Ramiyah is a gospel group.  It has a lovely meaning, but it's nms.  Mia or Mya is very pretty.

At the end of the day, it's your baby and you get to name it whatever you want.

  • I really like Liam.

Ramiyah I'm not sold on.  It seems like a made up name and the spelling is really weird to me.  I would feel bad for a kid who constantly has their name mispronounced or has to pronounce their name to everyone all the time.

  • So it seems like most people are agreeing with my friends on the girl name. Ramyiah isn't made up, the spelling I made different, but the original spelling is Ramiah and I didn't like that as much...does anyone like that spelling more, or still no? I am trying to think of a unique name because I grew up as Jessica Ashley and had to share both names with half the population and my DH name is Daneil...not Daniel, but pronounced Da-Neil and I love how different his name is so I just want to give my child a unique one....I guess maybe I am going too far.

I have fingers crossed that it is a boy though because I am definitely set on Liam Tristan! Big Smile

  • I like Liam Tristan a lot.  But I think there have been a lot of Liam's lately--four of my friends just had kids named Liam within the last year.  I really like Ramyiah (Ramiyah?), but didn't pronounce it in my head the way you wanted it to be, so I agree that it might be hard to keep giving pronunciation lessons every time she's introduced.

I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything I swear. But, my first name is Laura and I grew up my whole life correcting people from pronouncing it Lauren, ever after reading it on paper! I have seriously spelled my name out loud for people and they will repeat back: So Lauren? NO! I drives me insane, it bugs me to this day when people do it.

So, although Ramiyah is a little "out of the box" spelling and pronouncing it for people isn't a good excuse not to use it. But I do agree it's a little "different" and I certainly won't use it on my own child or anything.

I like the spelling of Ramiah a little better.  I don't like throwing extra letters in a name just to make it different.

  • Ramiah/Ramiyah is unusual but pretty. I would keep the original spelling if you go with it.

I like Liam, but I feel like it's overused.

  • I found Ramiah on a baby website and it says Ramiah is male:

Regardless, it's not my style.  But if you're looking for a unique name, I'd still suggest something else.  Nameberry.com has a lot of helpful lists like Unusual Names, Unique Names, Bibilican Names.  I'd search more.

  • I like Liam Tristan, and I like the spelling of Ramiah much better than Ramyiah.

Ramiah looks Biblical (apparently it's mentioned in Ezra 10:25 as the name of someone who married outside of their tribe or something like that), while Ramyiah looks made up. I wouldn't worry too much about Ramiah not being unique- I really doubt there would be multiple Ramiahs running around!

Also, when I said Ramyiah in my head, I pronounced it ram-E-ah, not ra-MY-ah.

  • A girl I know just had a little boy named Tristan, not a big fan of it. Liam does seem popular this year, so if you had a boy he may end up being one of many Liam's in his class.

Ramaya may be an alternative spelling that is easier to read and get the pronunciation correct? It's nms, but it's not a bad name.

I agree. I think Ramiah looks better.

  • Liam is a fine name, but not sure that Tristan is the right MN for it.

Not a fan of Ramiyah.  No one will know how to say it.  What about just Mya? or Maya?

My name is Kate and there were 5 others with the same name in my Kindergarten class.  I turned out fine and actually like my name.  As long as it's a nice name that people can actually pronounce, what's the problem?  Doesn't mean you're going to be ordinary.

  • I like your names! I love that they have such strong meaning! I also choose names that mean strong things for my children. LOVE the meaning of Ramiyah!!

  • I like your boys name but your girls name is a little out there for me. That's just my opinion though. It's your decision, not mine! :)

  • I dislike Ramiyah. One, because I don't like changing the spelling just because. Two, from what I can find of it it is originally a male name and is a precursor to Jeremiah.

One def. i see is- one who had taken "a strange wife." ( Ezra 10:25 )
