My 2 year old DS passed his baked in dairy challenge a few weeks ago. I've been brave about trying out some crackers and homemade baked goods made with real dairy.... but beyond that I'm nervous. My DH brought up giving him lasagna. My gut reaction was "hell no!" But when I thought about it, I guess it passes all the "rules" my doctor gave me.... baked at 350 for at least 30 minutes. So, would you feed your child lasagna if they passed a baked-in dairy challenge?
FWIW, his RAST scores were pretty low for dairy and his passed his skin test completely. His reaction has always been hives and vomiiting... never anaphylactic. (He also has a pretty serious egg allergy, but is cleared for baked-in eggs as well.)
Re: Passed baked-in dairy.... now what!?
dairy in a baked muffin is different than a soft cheese baked, like lasagna (i think!). I would think even the smallest amount would be super strong b/c it's not mixed in with flour and other ingredients. But since there was NO reaction what so ever, i would start really really small! like a quarter of a table spoon or something like that.
My son is ok with soy in baked goods now (still gets a diaper rash) but when i tried baked tofu it was a totally different story.. he broke out completely.
as long as it's not a ana prone, i would give him just a tiny bit first day and maybe in couple of days increase the amount.
good luck!
I am hoping to get where you are in a few weeks- that's great you can do baked dairy! Did the allergist give you a schedule of how to introduce things? I probably wouldn't go with lasagna yet b/c there is SO much cheese to deal with.
My twins are 5! My baby is 3!
